Sounds like Wichita is a bigger version of Arlington in terms of LTL freight gathering and loading. Does it have all the comforts of home for the drivers as well? If I don't hear anything in terms of a load by the end of today, I may just head that way after I get empty.
So far, your description of people like Rick seems to be the norm for the majority of the people who work in the offices here.

Got a message from Brand X yesterday...they just don't get it.
They just can't believe that people who leave don't want anything to do with that god forsaken nightmare of a corporation ever again. I personally would rather panhandle at the end of an interstate ramp with a cardboard sign and a crutch than ever set foot on an Acklie property again...unless SPD has me delivering something to one of their terminals that is.Itsbrokeagain, Gearjammin' Penguin, JoeyJunk and 7 others Thank this. -
Yes, Wichita physically handles more freight then any other terminal.
Other then being a giant dust bowl right now the terminal is nice. There’s a lounge with couches and cable tv. A shower that’s pretty decent, one of the locals even provides clean towels for drivers. The only thing missing is laundry facilities.Itsbrokeagain, JoeyJunk, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Company car so I won't have to drop my trailer and PC to Wally World?

Dispatch just called. Head to Wichita and swap my conestoga flatbed for a step deck and head to Dewey, OK for a pick up tomorrow
Speed_Drums, Itsbrokeagain, JoeyJunk and 4 others Thank this. -
Mine called to see if I was coming back to work this week and if so could I take a 175 mile trip into North Indiana on Sunday afternoon......

Take padding. You’re picking up a part for a flame cutting table. Maybe a whole table but they are usually oversize. Maybe that will give you a 16x75 table. Or a 90’ table. That’s the larges single piece table they have built, I took that to Houston.
nice people there and you can park there or at the little truck stop down the street.Speed_Drums, Itsbrokeagain, JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this. -
Probably not oversized, they had me swap from a flat conestoga to a step conestoga. Plus they haven't upgraded me to haul OD just yet. And the load goes to Toledo for Monday. I honestly wouldn't know how to pull that long load on the trombone trailer...
One thing for sure about SPD (that I like), they have such a wide variety of freight, you never know what you'll be hauling next, so it keeps it interesting...so far, I have only one regret about coming here...why didn't I come here after leaving We-lie instead of wasting almost 2 years at Shaffer.Last edited: Sep 8, 2022
