I deadheaded up to Melville NY from NC to grab this huge load (-35°c) and delivered it back in Raleigh early this morning. Off for the holiday and a shorty to Atlanta Friday….
    Happy 4th y’all

Finally got loaded starting at 15:30 and they only loaded 5 pieces instead of 8. They said they'll ship the rest on Monday. I ended up getting loaded and secured just in time to play in the LA area afternoon traffic. It took me 2 hours to drive the 31 miles between the shipper and the Rancho yard. I could have gone further since I split logged, but I just didn't feel like fighting any more of this traffic and Cajon was dark burgundy on google maps so I called it a day at the yard.

And the people who enter the special messages on the digital signs around Cali are real genius..."Extreme Heat, Stay Cool, Drink Water". So helpful and informative...nobody who reads those would have ever thought of doing that when it's hot.

Does he really need the "oversize load" sign on the lead tractor? It's like: "no $#!+"

I just wonder how often they need to rebuild the transmission and drive line on those trucks. Even the heaviest duty parts would be worn out moving that kind of weight.

Managed to make it from the Rancho yard to Sky City yesterday. Having a load that doesn't even weigh 5000 lbs makes pulling hills a breeze. I pulled Cajone in 12th. Until I hit the AZ line where I was able to run wide open I was getting 10.1 mpg, I am down to 9.5 now. If all goes well, and if they let me know what I am doing after I get empty early enough, I could deliver this on Sunday with enough hours to get out of the Charleston area. With all the issues Boeing has been having with the 737, I'm not sure if they still pull the 737 inlets out of Ladson or not...and @kylefitzy was just down in that area and he ended up picking up an RGN load elsewhere, so who knows what my future will hold. But if they're in the office today, and have an idea of where I am headed, I could be half way to my next pickup by Sunday afternoon.

They offered me a Ladson load, I told them to save it for SSB!
I’ve actually never hauled that load, my group has to many other options in that area I guess. It’s a rare day that I get a legal conastoga load that’s not a skin cart.

I guess times are slim, loading livestock today. I’m picking up a Buffalo at the port…

They didn't listen to ya. When I called Toledo and updated her as to my potential plans for delivering (long before my FM was due in) she said she doesn't see a Ladson on the board, so they must have gave it away to another special driver (more special than me). I did however get assigned a load out of N. Charleston for Monday morning going to Tulsa.

Those Ladson loads are almost the easiest loads we do (other than this one, which is by far the most driver friendly load I have pulled here, it's almost enough of a gift that I almost feel obligated to send Robert a thank you card)

And how do you secure a Buffalo? Chains or straps....at least you didn't get assigned the buffalo chips load :D

    Lonesome Thanks this.

With chains, lots and lots of chains. 9 to be exact. I nailed the weights for my 13/40/40 permit by sheer luck. The #### thing is almost 6” taller than it should be though. On my trailer that has an 18” deck height, it should be 14’2”. I was 14’8” when I started. By taking the Crane out of its cradle, pulling the neck shims, and adjusting the suspension down I got it to 14’5”(ish) to avoid a pole car. But I’m only 3” off the ground in the front.

If I load one again I’m stretching two more feet and loading with one of the rear axles sitting on the beams and the tires floating in the air.

this freaking thing is like a spaceship inside, all kinds of crazy buttons, the seat spins around so you can drive it either way, three different ways to steer it, but no steering wheel. And the visibility to load it on the trailer was total ####, it took a few times to get it lined up relatively straight. IMG_7016.jpeg IMG_7017.png
