I saw an article, I think it was from the Wall Street Journal, that said that there won't ever be a pension offered. They determined years ago that it was unsustainable for them to maintain a pension plan for that many employees. I sincerely hope they start doing massive layoffs and plant lockouts and then those union ######## can go pound sand and try to find anything close to what they're making now. There are other parts of this country that would be tickled spitless to have the kind of jobs they aren't doing.

It appears that I am picking up a big EV charging station that has a huge battery backup built in. Got to the shipper a little after 10 (load instructions said be there by 10, but the 101 freeway had alternate plans). It's a small city street with curb parking. Basically, just enough room for me and a small car to pass...and they load in the street. Check in and they inform me that they set things up for noon, and the riggers won't be there until then...so, I had to find a parking spot down the street. The shipper is flying to MA to install, so they don't want me there until Tuesday which is when they have scheduled a rigging crew to unload. And this is going down near Harvard, in an extremely tight location. Fun, fun

Update-the riggers are delayed so I now have to wait until 14:00...and when I asked about placards, he said they need Class 8...and then asked if I have any....o_O

I’m guessing that thing is over 8800 lbs. You’re going to need class 8 bulk placards with the UN number on them

    Rugerfan Thanks this.

Blank class 8’s and if you can find numbers I believe you’ll need 3082 for them. Don’t quote for me sure though.

As far as I know lithium batteries are class 9 misc. hazmat and do not require placards domestically. A few years ago there was a bunch of us hauling 6k pound batteries from or to ca. 6 to 7 per load and no placards. Just the UN number on the batteries themselves. I don’t have a hazmat endorsement.

This is something like what I am hauling only a different color.

It needs a class 9 placard, UN3481. The whole unit weighs 20,000 lbs, he said the battery is 7500. I think whether or not it needs placard is how it's packaged. A battery by itself (usually secured to a pallet) doesn't need them, but mine is hard wired into the unit prior to shipping, so it does. 3100 miles with hazmat bonus pay.

I swear, Elon makes a lot of money out of the bay area. Tesla cars are everywhere. The ratio of Teslas to all other EV's out there is like 3 or 4 to 1. They're like ####roaches, they're everywhere. I thought the SeaTac area had a lot of Teslas, but the bay area has it beat hands down.
