I've seen too many YouTube videos where those slide off and roll...not sure I want to drive one of those

Th only real issue is the break over when coming on the trailer- the machine will want to turn. Put rubber down and it helps minimize this. Go slow and use the stick to move the cg of the machine. If I can do it (note I dislike it) and I have done every size from small to big - anyone can do it. Scrapers, however, are a no go - customer loads it and unloads it.

As Ron says above the break over is where it can get exciting, usually. I’m no expert but my strategy has a always been to load in a level spot. And once you start of the ramp, keep going! To many accidents happen when guys try to straighten the machine with tracks in the air. Get the machine sitting flat on the deck, then get it centered.

do you really want to scare him to death?

SPD mostly likely wouldn’t have one - it is mostly a California Nevada Arizona thing - as 16 tires are good for OTR RGN work.

No, but I did try to unload this motor grader off the back by accident. One of the reasons I don’t like the places that won’t let you load yourself. I’d much rather figure out the controls On the ground vs on the trailer as I’m trying to unload. 2FC2B19F-2771-4977-9E59-AC1347CBF4DB.jpeg

It has it's moments. It's usually just the old timers that do it with anything very big or tracked. Those trailer tires are expensive.
It sure is handy though picking up a shovel from a completed job where you'd have to lay tires or plywood down and try not squinch up their new blacktop.

Learning on the ground is the best way. I still won't load a curb and gutter machine that belongs to one of our customers. It has a corded remote with five rows of toggle switches, none of which are marked. When I try to load it it just jumps up and down in one place kinda like a demented squirrel.
