It was not much of a road. We were crashing trucks left and right. Some over the shoulder some down the right sides. They finally shipped us all back home and used local drivers who had an idea of how to drive up there.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

I sincerely hope not. In my opinion, 99% of the companies on this site are just junk OTR companies. Especially any company that relies on recruiters to bring in the uneducated driver just for meat in the seat. However, there are those companies out there who do not rely on recruiters. Those are the one's he should try to find. They are out there. I found one but it was some time before there was an opening because no one left unless they retired. I was eventually hired and I enjoyed working there. I was able to retire last year at 60 with lifetime medical as well as a lifetime pension. I truly hope he finds that or something that fits his lifestyle and requirements.

You’re not missing much, at least on this trip anyway. It’s been very foggy or heavy cloud cover most of the trip. 37 through bc was beautiful. The alcan, especially between Whitehorse, yt and Tok, ak is literally the worst road I’ve ever been on, by a large margin. It’s not just rough, it’s incredibly uneven where the road is crumbling due to the unstable ground. Most of the speed limit is 90kph and there are lots of spots where you can run 110 no problem, I always follow the speed limit of course. But there were spots where I couldn’t do more then about 40-50 it was so rough. I was surprised how little traffic there is.

It would be much better if a lot of it was elevated roadway like Louisiana has over the swamps on the 10.

The frost may be starting to come out, which would make it the very worst time of the year to travel that route.

I've never driven to Alaska, but I sure wouldn't mind it once just to see it.

I was working for Navistar at the time doing the road testing of new vehicles. Our team flew up there and just about trashed every truck they had. So they flew our sorry butts back home and hired some local drivers to do the testing. I was living in California at the time. What the heck did I know about driving on ice???
