An old man's career goes flat, Snackbar moves to open deck

Well in today’s episode of “take a ####in and keep on truckin” I left Wichita on Sunday morning with the Bertha tarp heading for the Detroit, Michigan area to load a big ugly one. 14’ wide, 13’6” tall on the ground, and 55k pounds. Full tarp job of course. Heading to Mexico via Laredo, tx.
Stopped at the house for two days and headed out Tuesday morning. 1300 miles of dead head later (I started in Dallas bobtail) the load canceled half an hour before I got there. ####ing pricks. I had two pilot cars sitting at the customer that had almost 1000 miles deadhead to get there.

Without going into to many details, everyone but me lost money on the deal. I at least got my regular mileage pay.

We were able to regroup and find an 11’ wide, no tarp load heading to Nevada for a Monday delivery. So I will absolutely trade 35cpm for the smaller load and not having to untarping in Laredo in August.


@supersnackbar would have loved the training video they sent out today. They went over ground breaking topics such as: if any of the clocks on your elog say 0:00, you can’t drive the truck anymore. Also if you turn the screen off, you might forget that the clocks are ticking down and drive right past your HOS! I hope they go over the available window flavors next week, but judging by the specs of the new trucks, plain is going to be the only option.

 

I’m sure spd is charging for the no go

 

We don’t pay pilots to deadhead to us. Technically they did no work so we can’t charge the customer for them. We had well over $1k in overweight permits and route surveys. I’m not sure who’s paying for what but it sounded like a short end of the stick was being shared by everyone.

I’m confident everyone at SPD doing what they can to make the situation as right as possible.

 

I've heard of TONU charges, definitely need one for Pilots, mainly because I'm pretty sure with some trucker creativity we could get it to a PONY* acronym just so you can tell dispatch the pilot wants a PONY (I'm easily amused on the best of days and a little stir crazy right now).

*Pilot Ordered, No Yellow lights is the best I've got

 

All ready to unload…now if only someone had told me the crane was scheduled for tomorrow. That would have been nice. Also an extension cord is running my tail lights 13 year old trailers are a joke.

I was on site at 0800 and gone by 1230. I’ll call that a win. The crane had another job cancel so they were able to come a day early. Which is good because 3 other trucks also showed up, two of them needing a crane.
