We do on occasion but it’s certainly not one of our main gigs. I have never hauled one but a while back one of our drivers was asking how to secure one in our private Facebook group.

I'm glad I called my contact at the shipper. Turns out there are 2 USMC bases in the Barstow area. I was only looking at the one right next to I-40...I am picking up at the other one that is north of Daggett CA by I-15. Still don't know exactly what I am picking up. Had to run down to Hesperia last night. CA permitting office is behind on processing trip permits, so they have year permits in the office (not assigned to specific trucks), so I had to meet the terminal manager on his way home so he could bring me one. And they already sent my AZ and NM pemits...but I had to take off my truck driver hat and put on my technical support hat because I have never connected this phone to my old printer, so I had to figure out what name to call the #### thing before it would connect. My phone is probably saying "you buy the upgraded 5g smartphone, then try to connect it to a dinosaur of a printer?"

This isn't really oversize, but SPD had to pull permits anyway. The tires aren't past the rub rails, and there is only one little box the size of a pack of smokes that sticks out a little further than the tires. But, it makes me extra moolah...it only weighs 22,000 lbs, but it's as top heavy as those forklifts were a couple three weeks ago. It's some sort of amphibias troop transport. 8 wheels, independent suspension, the front like a boat and 2 propellers in back. The front tie down points are on the side, with a clevis, but trying to just use 2 'X' chains off the clevis forced the clevis into the body, so it was out to the rub rails. I added the front 'X' chains at a wider angle than recommend off of there after I had the other front chains in place just to keep any side movement in the front. In the back, 'X' chains worked and 2 extra chains to hold it from moving forward back there as well for insurance. The most challenging part, getting my rear "Oversized Load" sign in place off the rear of the trailer without blocking my tail lights or license plate. I couldn't put it off the back of the vehicle because it is tapered inward from top to bottom. One day I am gonna make a bracket that bolts to the side rub rails to mount the sign to above the deck...for now it's legal and readable.
