Al i can say is that i have been here for almost 2 months now and i am sending more money home every week here then i ever did at my last company. I cant say how the milage program works but as a percentage driver on the lease i am averaging around 1.80 to the truck and 70-80 cents a mile to the house before taxes. Since i have a wife and 3 kids taxes are not a big issue for us. ATS has treated me very well so far and the freight has been very interesting. Yes i have destoryed one of my tarps but that was my fualt for not using my tarp blanket. I can honestly say im happier now then i have been in a long time.

I agree about Harold and Rollie.

However, the old days of ATS being a company who cares about the drivers is gone. Why do you think we are all quitting? As of last week, there were more than 80 tractors turned in at St, Cloud, MN and 40 or more brought to Gary, IN, awaiting new hires to get them going again.

I hope it continues to go well for you driver, but watch out when it comes time to do a new lease (if that is what you are doing). ATS cut the linehaul rate again in March, from what the O/O's and L/O's told me before I quit as a company driver. They hosed all the subsidiary companies and the ATS drivers are next. ATS, Midwest, New Energy, Brewton Express, etc., are all quitting their jobs because of ATS!!!

I had to quit because of the consistanly low paycheck and other reasons. Watch your back!!!

Interesting feedback and as I figured, there are some good and bad reports on the company... I talked to ATS today about their lease program and the recruiter recommended working for Brewton Express. He said I would have to go company for 90 days and then could go lease. I have no flatbed experience but he said they will train me on securement. I'm looking for a company that has running lanes through Arkansas so I can get by the house often and not be out 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Ideally I would like to be home most weekends but as long as I can get home for a 10hr break here and there through the week, Im happy. I'm currently driving locally and starving to death so I'm having to go back on the road or the wife and kids will be camping and not for the joy of being outdoors. After being home daily, extended time away is not something I want to adjust to again. So with all of that said, Redeye and RPSloan do you think ATS would be a good move or should I continue looking elsewhere??
    Thanks

The securement "training" they are referring to last about 2 hours, total. No joke. There are no trainers or anyone there to formally help you. ATS has completely taken over the former Brewton Express freight base. Brewton drivers are also quitting. We expect B.E. to be completely absorbed by ATS before the end of next year or earlier.

I still have contact with 3 drivers I know personally at ATS. Everyone else has already quit. One of them is an L/O. He is very busy now that so many of us have quit working for ATS. You started with ATS as everything was getting real bad there. I do hope you are able to do well there as long as you can. However, watch your back. ATS will cut rates when they are ready and won't tell you all about it.

I was with ATS from 2000-2005. ATS purchased Brewton Express to snatch the lucrative freight from the cell phone tower company in Louisiana that Brewton hauled for. Brewton was taken over because they were using brokers to get return freight and their insurance costs were rising too high to remain profitable. They partnered with ATS to lower these costs. I think they kept some of the owners/managers as well. I'm not certain what kind of deal they got.

ATS knows the numbers game. When I started I made .27cpm as a company driver. The driver pool must have dried up around 2001 because my pay went from .27cpm to .41cpm in a very short period of time. I would bet that they aren't paying much more than .41cpm now. I don't think the crappy freight situation has allowed for any pay raises.

Wow!! I wouldn't never base my life or job on some disgruntled ex employees!!! I have been here since Jan. I lease my truck, I make a very good living, I have meet a lot of other drivers here, I have to say none of them are complaining about anything, we all love it here!! This is just my opinion. If you believe everything that is on here you wouldn't want to work anywhere. Lol. Good luck everyone!!
