Actually it seems I hear a lot more negativity than I do positivity on the subject. A balanced perspective is a rareaty.

Right, I'm sure that is the case for the most part.

I do get a kick out of the all oo's are lieing about their finances or what they make. lol
If a guy listened to some of you there would never be an oo that makes a living and buys another truck.
I do know there are lots of bad gigs out there for oo's, but there are just as many good and some great ones too, most of the bad ones are not even what I call a true oo. thee can be money made with a dump type operation even in Texas, and a lot of the time those type of gigs clear more than most otr gigs.
A guy needs to do his homework and buy the right type of rig to start with, depending on what type of work he will be doing mostly. most ex fleet trucks are not what I would call right for the job.

I wouldn't buy it; I owned a Volvo 2008, it's first year with DPF filter, and dozen of sensors on top of egr valves for emission. I would get an 07 or older, at least you have egr valve only, less headache.

Thanks, finally someone with a positive outlook.. And your right I don't see how anybody would think running there own truck would be a good idea with all the negativity. I mean I understand there are risk and one needs to take a hard look at what all being an oo entails but it is not impossible by any stretch of the imagination.

I would bet your daughters boyfriends dad is telling some big stories. To start I doubt very much he still has his authority. He may have at one time but I dought it’s active anymore. I also think your looking at the wrong year truck. Lately I have seen some super nice 1997 to 2003 trucks with Detroit 12.7 engines for some good prices.

Why are you so certain his authority is not active?
I kept mine active by paying insurance for one truck for several years after I quit using it.
I, right now keep the insurance up on a truck I have not used for 6 or more months for the same reason, while I have another one leased on to a carrier that I am running.
It is funny that everybody always knows more about an oo's business than they do themselves, how come there are guys retired that were oo's for 40 years or more?

If you had an authority, you most likely still have it, it is just inactive, all it takes is to reregister your insurance to activate it, or at least that is how it was explained when we finally put ours on inactive.
Most anything you can haul in dump trucks is exempt anyway, just need a dot # unless you are crossing state lines.
