    What's crackalackin fellow truckers!

Ijust finished up my year in OTR and am now seeking advice in my future endeavors. I'm based out of the Chicagoland area and am now seeking a local job.

I currently have 1 year and change in experience but no endorsements as of yet, also accident free although I do have 1 ticket for "Failure to obey traffic sign" (extremely nitpicky ticket that seemed more like a moneygrab, WADOT....)

How is Chicago with local jobs moneywise, what are some companies to look for/avoid, and how would my ticket affect me in my jobsearch?

Also I've spoken to an ABF driver recently and he seemed extremely happy with his job and said they'll be looking for people soon. Anyone have any insight on them?

    Thanks

I'm Chicagoland also... There's tons of local companies... YRC, UPS freight, Old D, Fed Ex, ABF, Saia, and many many more... Look on craigslist theres a lot of listings for smaller companies on there... ABF has a big terminal not far from me in Ford Height, IL I heard they are like YRC where you start out on call but the pay Is good... Good luck 1 ticket with no accidents or anything is nothing brother... I wouldn't worry about that... Oh and I would go ahead and get your endorcments while you sitting around waiting for a job I would get Doubles/Triples and hazmat... I hear now to pull doubles they require a tanker endorcment also so ya may as well just get em all...

If at all possible, try to get on with United Parcel Service, (UPS), or UPS Freight. They are two of the best paying trucking companies in the United States of America, with excellent benefits to go with them. UPS has been around for many years. Also, they are represented by the Teamsters, which is probably a good thing in Chicago.

    Good luck to you.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

Get your doubles/tanker/hazmat and check out the first 6 that HalpinUout suggested.
Throw that OTR out the window.
    Welcome to the better money.
    Congratulations on lasting a year!

Craigslist has good listing. Most companies want you to have all your endorsements.

Chicago is a major trucking city. Apply at EVERY company you can think of. Then pick which one best fits you.

Go with a good company. Chicago has A LOT of not so great trucking outfits.

I was at golden states foods in Lemont dropping a new trailer and I saw they had a sign out saying that they are looking for help . They do delivering to McDonald's . You will earn your money but they used to pay well not sure what they pay now .

I did browse through some job listings and have looked at the websites of a few of the companies you listed, but it doesn't seem like they have any openings.

When it comes to finding a job like that would one have to stalk their websites for an opening of would it come down to showing up to terminals and speaking to an hr manager personally?

I would keep checking the websites I'm pretty sure most companies only accept applications this way... If there's an opening it should be posted on the webpage... If theres a particular company you wanted to work for, by going and speaking with the HR wouldn't hurt at all if anything im sure that would help you...Keep in mind right after the holidays is slow time for LTL...

Apply in person to some of these places.

We applied to Estes over a month ago. We don't even have a year experience but we have an interview set up for when we get back. We applied in person.

Apply to places even if they require 10 years experience. I've learned that they'll still hire you if they like you.

The key thing for you is to get all of your endorsements asap. The tests were easy.
