Can anyone tell me the average take home for an Estes or Old D. owner operator? Currently an Estes extra board company driver making around $80k a year, but considering O/O and want to know if it's worth the switch. Any advice would be great!

If that's after expenses, that's not bad for 5 days of work

If you lease onto either company I can almost promise you your net profit after all your books are done will be nowhere close to $80,000. Even if you made $1600 a week... 400 buffer zone for taxes, maintenance, and health insurance that will bring you in the $900 a week zone. The only thing you'll be gaining is freedom to work when you want and a new hobby of putting money into your truck. At the same time destroying benefits of being employed by a company. Just my 2 cents.... Good luck

If it were ODFL, I'd eat the 'freedom ' for the company gig - $80 - $100k with benefits is hard to beat - my (ex OD ) 2 cents.

I'd like to know his definition of 'clears ' - in fact, I'd love to see his books - many asked me about the can hauling when I was there, but I never knew anything about it.

If your seriously pulling in $80/year, do not buy a truck. The extra $10k is not worth the headaches. 2 reasons. You have a company 401k that I'm sure the company is matching some part of and when the truck breaks, you simply say "your truck is broke, I need a different unit." You have a great gig already, don't screw it up by buying a truck that will at some point cost you money in repairs and lost revenue.
That's my $.06 worth of advice.

Words of wisdom there lush - that's often the problem. Problem is - there's many kinds of trucking for many different needs.
