Why do I care what my family thinks???

:biggrin_2552: They've judged me and put me down for one thing or another my whole life.

I'm not impressed with how my parents or in-laws have lived their lives.... :biggrin_25512:

That's for sure. If someone wants to cheat, it doesn't matter WHERE they are...they will find a way. Sure, being away from home all the time makes it easier to cheat without the significant other finding out...

A cheater will cheat. Location has nothing to do with it.

    Flatbed hard?

One reason why I ask for flatbed work is because I get exercise and not sit around waiting to be loaded and unloaded. I think hauling food products is hard, I did that for one day and begged to be released so I could go back to flatbed work.

What city and state is your Tech program located in? What was the cost of the program before the grant was given???

At the moment I'm just in the process of doing research and getting all my ducks in a row to be a trucker. After several weeks on this forum I've decided I need two or three more years in my current corporate job to get everything in place. At that point I will face my first hurdle ... telling my wife. If you've seen the Real Wives NJ series...that's about as close as it gets for me. I live in an expensive suburb in Central-North NJ with crazy real estate taxes and have two kids in school. My wife hasn't worked since she we had our first kid and her main hobby's consist of visiting the mall for lunch with her friends and spending my money (Nordstrom seems to be the primary beneficiary) followed by an afternoon at the fitness club which I pay $250/month for (but have yet to visit myself despite being a member for over a decade).

I anticipate my wife going absolutely BALLISTIC when I tell her what my plans are and the implications ... and don't rule out even more than that.

Not looking forward to that step at all.

I'd be especially interested in how existing truckers who made the career change broke the news to their other half and strategies to help them (and you) cope.

If she really loves you ... she will be supportive, even if it means less money to spend at the mall.

You have to live your life for you and your husband, If they are proud or not is really there problem to deal with not yours. Live life the best way you see fit so that you are proud of your life.

The most opposition I had was from my dad. He's been driving 25 years now and was always dead set against me becoming a driver. But once it's in your blood it's hard to do anything else. I tried other jobs and hated every minute of it. I'm happy driving
