I wonder why they don't use trucks and trailers that can haul a lot more per trip, so they don't need as many trucks down there.
5 axles and those light loads are basically obsolete here.

I been to that QC yard a couple times in Southgate, CA.
All seemed good, I was on Gulf states intermodal/Boasso America(Now Global) side, but when CSX bought QC, Gulf States stayed stand-alone.

But as he said, each terminal is different the one in Southgate was ok, and the Gulf states in Mobile/Satsuma, AL was good

Cali has bunches of codes to keep "those renegade truckers" in line...

The axle weight limit charts are here:
    Codes Display Text.

And throw in the "length limits": (Not sure if triples are legal in Cali).
Quick Guide: Truck Lengths & Routes | Caltrans

and some more data here, Rocky mountain doubles are not legal in Cali:

    Thank you.

Here a light weight is still over 100,000 lbs.
When we pulled out of the yard yesterday morning we were 162,000.

No triples in California. I don't know why not. I-5 from the Bay to L.A. would be a natural for triples.

And have to explain stuff or say cope to the Socialites in L.A.?
Cali didn't want to allow 53 footers when they started becoming widely used and tried to ban them. Feds had to tell Cali something like "so sorry, you should have been paying better attention, they are in fact legal and you have to deal with them". So Cali differentiates between "truck routes" and "STAA designated routes" in their network.

I would like to see B-trains and triples for I-5, CA99, and appropriate feeder routes from Bakersfield to Reading area, but I'm a cantankerous SOB.
