I'm trying to do OTR, Local, or just about anything for a job. I know that I can go to a Mega Carrier no problem but I really don't want to. Does anyone know anything of any local, or decent OTR jobs that will hire me with 5 months experience?

im currently studying for hazmat, have tanker. No DUI OUI Felonies or Misdomenors ever. No reportable DOT Accidents. Just one little company preventable with the air lines pulled apart no drop trailer.

ive tried craigslist, and it seems that's just over hauled by JB Hunt and US Xpress

Rogerthat72, The problem with little or no experience mostly comes down to insurance regulations. Most really good Co. must have 2 to 3yrs. exp. because their insurance Co. demands it. Large carriers are mostly what I refer to as a "driver mill". I heard and I do not know if it is true, but supposedly these large Co. get government grant money in exchange for accepting people into their training programs; furthermore, they get the payment even if the person does not make it all of the way thru training. A large Co. could literally pocket millions of dollars yearly just by making a few phone calls and filing some paperwork. Have you looked into Gypsum Express, they have a terminal in Baldwinsville NY. This is mostly flat-bed work and for the most part they are a good Co. They have the same problems that you will find with any trucking Co. but they will try to treat you with respect, if you are interested I could use a referral for you.

    RogerThat72 Thanks this.

you should have stuck it out for one more month :-D

not sure how flexible companies are that ask for 6 mos, but those seem to be fairly common . Maybe you can include the time for your CDL training, if you went that route.

you already check food svc and beverage? They sometimes only need 6 mo. Hard work, but you did say "anything". Also, a friend of mine in NYC got hired as a fuel hauler at 6 mos, decent pay (26/hr, plus 30+OT/wk). He just asked around when he saw local guys. I know you're not in NYC, but prolly same BS lol

Also, see if your states unemp office has a job site,, ours pulls ads from the big job websites (monster, etc) and you search all from one site. That's how I found my current job.

    Bella21 and RogerThat72 Thank this.

Thanks guy. The wife is getting lonely, and quite frankly I would like some time home with the boy. The good jobs are hard to come by. Yes, I'm at Schugel I'll probably stay until I have a full year or two. Although I was just seeing if anyone else knew somthing around my area I couldn't find.
