Driver I went to one of their orientations, I can not say I was impressed. They talk a lot about safety, but not much about the driver and whether they are important to them. Safety was the only reoccurring theme in their orientation, but their CSA scores do not reflect that. I would suggest that you look at a company's SMS Measurements (CSA scores) that will tell you a lot about that company. You can look them up google SMS measurement, then go to the government website, you can look them up by their DOT number or search carriers.
To save you time and others here are their scores and my opinion on them. Lower the number the better the score.
Unsafe driving 25%, that is good for a large carrier that hire a lot of inexperienced drivers.
Hours of Service 43%, that means their dispatchers push their drivers or drivers are not paid well enough to keep them from trying to make an extra buck.
Vehicle maintenance 51%, that is a high number for a fleet, a red flag to me, means they have a weak maintenance system.
Inspection out of service rate 14%, this is high for a company with a maintenance program, this means 1 out of 6 drivers is shut down at the scales. This also makes it more likely you will get pulled in for inspection, easy money for the state. Companies running with 5 to 7% usually only see inspections about once a year.
Those are the things I look at when choosing a company, and my opinion. I did not include Driver fitness and Controlled substance, because that is on the driver. I do know they do hair testing for drug screens and are big on Apnia. Also they will lowball you on pay, do not take their first offer, they will bargain for a good driver.
If you need experience, JB hunt is about the same as the other big carriers, but if you have a good record and experience you can do better. Good luck.brycey1 Thanks this. -
51% is not a high number. It means they are in the middle of the pack for the category of carriers they belong to which is based on the number of inspections the company receives (exact numbers escape me at the moment but you can find them on the FMCSA's website.) So over all those number actually aren't bad considering they do hire drivers with no experience. There's companies out there that require 3+ years experience that have worse numbers (though with far fewer inspections so they are compared to to a different set of companies.)

Former JB Hunt OTR drivers maybe. They no longer use their trucks in the one way OTR market. They played their part in driving rates into the crapper and then moved onto other areas. Some of their lease drivers still ran OTR as late as last year but I don't see to many of them as of lately.

thanks for the replies, have not seen much posted on here about them lately, i checked out their csa scores and when you compare them to other large carriers they are not to bad, i have orientation with them on monday so will see how it goes, they used to have a bad reputation but seems they are much better now, they do have otr positions and that is what im doing for the time being, just hope there are plenty of miles..............

Had one of their recruiters call me. Just for giggles I played along. He said we have local positions in your area. I asked him if he could guarantee me one of those local jobs. " I have no way of knowing what will be available after you finish orientation. But the quicker I get you into orientation, the better chance you have to get one of the local jobs".
I just laughed and hung up.Big Duker Thanks this.
