Found a 1996 truck that I think is the one for me.

Landstar said no way to it. Agent at Mercer said some guys are running older trucks. Just wanted to confirm if this was true.

If it can run a Qualcomm then I think you're good to go...
They guys running paper logs now were grandfathered in.

Talk to a recruter. If You can take the truck by louisville, they will check it and let you know if it will work. I'm hopefully starting in a few weeks

Mechanic at our shop who knows n-14 s but is thee least helpful conversationist out there says it has a way to hook up a diagnostic EB2 and if it has that you should be able to hook up a Elogs.

But the young guy at the parts counter in the used engine shop next to work says no Elogs and no converting that old motor to run them..

Landstar agent said truck was too old to run Elogs.

Why would anyone, ever take a truck miles away and have no guarantee of a job? This is putting wear n tear on truck, costing the truck owner fuel/money, and time. The company should know what they will, or will not allow for their company requirements I have a 1999 Peterbilt Ex Hood, 750 Cat, with an 18 speed, 360" w.b, 200 inch sleeper, and she weighs 56,000 pounds dry weight. Has a Custom headache rack with all the new equipment in her. Most companies today will not put on such trucks. Older trucks either, as the new electronic trucks with all the modern crap in it (ELD, computer programmable engine, warning devices, etc)

What engine does it have? I know for a fact an n14 celect+ will hook up to a Qualcomm. I'm 99.999% positive an n14 celect also will. I am not sure about a straight n14 tho would bet it does. The ecm on an n14 performs very similarly to a ddec 2 which absolutely will work with a Qualcomm.

Edit to add: the only age requirement mercer has is that the truck will accept the elog they use. Everything else is based on appearance and mechanical condition. For appearance they are rather strict about body damage and peeling paint. Tho they have yet to say anything to me about my clear coat peeling on the to of the sleeper and hood.

N-14 select plus red top. I think the guy at Mercer I spoke with didn't know his as from a hole in the ground. Little crumple on the back of sleeper , but I am going to straighten that out. Little fading on top of sleeper but going to do a Silver accent on it and around the front fenders where it has road rash from stone chips.

I am going to dump about 15 into it for brakes , cans, bags , clutch , tires etc etc. I want it mechanically perfect.

    I've got that same engine.
    Elog plugged in just fine.

Edit to add: the law requires a heat shield on exposed mufflers so unless you are putting a headache rack on don't forget to wrap a shield on it.

    96 is computerized.

So wouldn't it be able to elog?

The T600 I once drove had a diagnostic plug.

Are you sure about that? I thought the e model came out a few years prior and that 95 or 96 was the last year you could get a b or c model.
