Seriously? A grand a week? That's company driver wages.
Come over to Mercer and two months from now you won't pull out of the drive way for that kind of money.
Any Mercer VAN drivers out there?

-
Depends you got to get a good system down.. this week I grabbed someone dedicated route. Not the best but it's decent and I won't use my trailer so less wear n tear.
-
So between 2500-3500 a week
-
I have no idea, I own a flat. but I do know for a fact I can get a job driving someone else's truck and make more than a grand, and get full benefits on top.
-
Sure don't hear much about the van side ,makes one think the van side must be dead.No money to be made.
-
Oh there is money to be made. But almost everyone I know that starts with a van, switches to a flat. Not because they were not making money, but because they see us making more for basically the same job. By being around us they see that flatsisn't the big scary thing they thought it was. in other words, they drink the koolaid and are hooked.poppy"s toy Thanks this.
-
Oh but I have no and I mean no experience with flat bed work.
-
Neither do a lot of guys. They have a one day class to teach the basics. But honestly, if you have ever moved anything in a pick up, you can do flats. It's basic common sense stuff. And you will find that when you load, other flat drivers are always willing to help if you just ask and explain your a newbie.
That last thing is probably what really sets open decks apart from other sectors of trucking. There is a camaraderie of sorts.
