I don't entertain the notion that are guys are doing well on Van anymore.. Until someone show me numbers it's falling on deaf ears. My coordinator just told me a few days ago 10 guys since this summer have quit... And I'm willing to bet the title to my truck that the guys who are doing "well" don't have nothing to pay for back home... I'm flirting with the idea of Flatbed I just need to call Jim up and check the list... Anybody who ask me on the road i tell them go Flat.. I'm not in the business of selling false hopes to people.. I'm more of a realistic person..u come here with a 2000a month truck payment and pull Van u gonna lose something.. Whether it's your truck or your house if it's not paid for.. Until someone shows me actual numbers stick with flat any potential newbies

It certainly feels that way. But was it that they were really struggling or is it that they wised up after talking rates with us flat bed guys. Van rates in this industry have never, and will never, consistently pay as good as flatbed rates.

Something else to think about, there are just as many, if not more, flat bed guys quitting as van guys. All ya got to do is look at truck numbers next time your at the yard and you can only come to one conclusion, we have a lot of guys just passing through. That's not unique to vans. Nor is it unique to Mercer. The industry has a ridiculously high turnover rate.

What are the chances of me making it as an o/o or better yet a l/o with mercer (since I would have to go thru quality) starting out with literally nothing just as I would if I was I was just starting trucking...no saved money, no truck no nothing except for bills at home?

Slightly better than your chances at any where else. So maybe 1 percent.

Starting with nothing is like playing Russian roulette 7 times a week. Seriously though if that's your plan I'll advise against it. Reason being if you're asking this question then you haven't done enough research on becoming a O/O

Umm. No. And neither did anyone else that's still in business six months later.
To have even half a decent shot at succeeding it takes years of saving money. If you can't, right now, write a check for fifteen thousand, you have no business getting into business.

All those zero down lease deals you see advertised are nothing but a trap. Just like a buy here pay here lot, or rent to own stores.

No I havent...ur right...and I'm only used to being a lease operator...and with those I've started out with nothing...and no I know mercer is a sister to quality who leases trucks...so i figured maybe I can start out how I normally would when I lease a truck

Mercer is NOT a sister company to quality. that term implies some ownership stake. Mercer doesn't care where you get your truck from, this is big boy trucking, not some mega that hand holds you, and babies steps you along like your mother.
