I've heard good things, but I've seen ads on craigslist every day, having me wondering if they are as good as they used to be. I have 10 years OTR experience but zero tanker experience. What is their training like?
Any recent info on Caledonia haulers?

They are great people to work for...beautiful, well-maintained equipment, too. I think they have a hard time finding good, hardworking, experienced drivers who want to spend a lot of time in Minnesota/Wisconsin who'll be happy running the freightlanes they generally run. They want to see their truck once a week, so they can maintain it in their shop and not at a truckstop. They have a terminal in Caledonia, MN, and a a small one in Cedar Rapids, IA, so, if you live close to one of those places, you'll have a chance to be through the house often when you are not on a day off. A lot of guys who go to work there consider moving there; great place to live, too.

They will definitely treat you like a human being, not an unpaid babysitter like the major carriers do.

I've been there almost two years and all I can say is I wish I'd gone to work for them a long time ago. I've been driving, off and on, for about 35 years. Got out of it for a while a couple of times, but came back to it about 11 years ago after being out of it for about 7 years, and they're definitely the best outfit I've ever run for. Good benefits package. A total of $0.07/mi pay raises since I've been on board, good customers, Love's as our primary fueling as of March 01. Real good bunch to work with. They do real good getting me home when I want to get home. Food grade tankers (may not work for everyone) but they work for me. Your 10 years experience ought to be good. The one thing about them which was an issue for one friend I got on board with them, is that if there are little things you can fix yourself, they'll expect you to. These kind of things might include changing a fuel filter when you're out on the road or whacking frozen trailer brake drums with a hammer. If you think they should send a service truck out for things like that, this could be a problem. They'll probably start you out with an older truck, maybe one of the older 379 Petes, which they still have a few of, so there might be some extra things with that, but after I was with them about a year, during which I had a couple of different trucks, they dropped me into a brand new 579 Pete last October. Which is being about the smoothest, quietest riding truck I've ever been in. Yeah, I like 'em.

Do you live close to Caledonia or Cedar Rapids?
Use paper logs or e-logs?
Do you go national or stay regional?
Just wondering. -
I know they have a drop yard in Janesville, WI
