I'm in school right now... and interested in Maverick's Temp Controlled Division (sent in my application today).
If possible I'd like to get a head start on working with a trainer.
I live between Akron and Youngstown Ohio.
I've been told by the recruiter that trainers are chosen based on your home location, so you can go home when they do?
So... I'm just wondering if there are any instructors in this area - and will one be available to go on the road with, around the time I'm ready?
I still have a week of class, and 6 weeks of being in the truck, before I test out for the CDL.
If I can go straight to orientation, add another week... so I'm hoping to be ready around mid November.
I know it's a long way off - but figure it can't hurt to try to get a head start - if possible?
Check out my blog if you want to know more about me.

Outdoorsman,
There aren't to many TCD drivers/trainers on the board. Those that get on here, do so every few days.
I am also waiting on orientation for TCD. Was approved on 8/22/12. My recruiter tells me that due to a shortage of trainers, slots for new TCD drivers are few and far between. I am hoping to get into the class on the 23rd or 30th of Sept.
Good luck on your school! -
Maverick is running short on TCD trainers - they're trying to recruit more via the Qualcomm. I run TCD myself, been solo since June. Can't imagine every switching to another company, especially given my current pay rate, which is unheard of in the industry for someone as new as I am.

Maverick and Roehl are at the top of my list... there are a lot of things I like about Maverick (pay is one of them).
The problem for me, is that there aren't any drop yards around here - so there's no secure place to leave the rig - and I really don't want to have to find a place to rent / leave it.
The shortage of trainers might or might not be a problem I guess, depending on the timing, I guess?
Glad to hear you're happy with your choice!
It's really hard to figure out what company to go with, given all of the differences between them. -
Short Stop truck stop. On OH-5, up by the toll road. Or you could find a church, towing company, other business or friend with room that will let you park there. As long as it's a legal and safe parking spot, I don't think Maverick cares. Just make sure it as capable of holding up 80,000 lbs.

I'm hoping by the end of this month I can get an orientation class and get started.
Hope to see you in the future.

Don't give up on them if you can avoid it, it's very much worth the wait.
