Jacksonville is crime ridden for sure. It's easy to get away from all that and still be close enough to work there.
That's one of the areas I researched and narrowed that down to St. Augustine and Palm Coast. So, here I am finally in Las Vegas. Lots of beautiful areas in the USA to live and in tax friendly states.
St. Augustine is a little closer than Palm Coast to Jacksonville, but in my opinion it's worth the extra 23 miles to live in Palm Coast.
Anybody live in Jax Florida?

Yeah, I'm qualified for the "over 55-no children" communities, but I have a 13 & 16 yrs. old children.UturnGirl Thanks this. -

Ah!, kids and grandkids needing looking after, I know the feeling. I'll just leave it at that.

The HOA I'm in is broken down into several HOA's. So, have to pay 2 HOA fees each month. The over 55 HOA's have much cheaper fees, but many more amenities. My buddy pays $97.00 total in the "over 55" community and I pay $245.00 monthly in mine.
We're both in Seven Hills HOA though, but that's broken down into smaller HOA's with different fees.
I don't care; I'm very happy here and the children attend the best public schools in Nevada.UturnGirl Thanks this. -

Unless you plan to dye your hair blue, I would suggest staying in the northern part of the state. I live north of Gainesville, far enough from the city to have a rural/private place to live, but close enough to have access to shopping and quality medical facilities (as quality as Florida medical can be). You can find a quiet country atmosphere within a reasonable commute to Jax.
