I also delivered canned goods to Berrien County Jail with a straight truck. When you are used to driving a tractor-trailer, switching to a straight truck for a few hours is a challenge.

"From its opening in 1935, the United States Narcotic Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, epitomized this country’s ambivalence about how to treat addiction. On the one hand, it was a humane hospital set on 1,000 acres of farmland where drug addicts could recover from their habits. On the other hand, it was an imposing federal prison built to incarcerate convicted addicts."Pullin2 Thanks this. -
Force dispatched quite a few times.......at taxpayer expense.

I do del to federal prisons every year at specific time, we do the super max and we do deliver to a specific person in the building.
They know we are coming and what we are bringing, for that matter it is a pretty easy delivery.
But i wouldn't want to deliver some general freight at those places.... -
I used to be a prisoner, and would help unload the trucks coming in with commissary (food). A couple of times, I could visibly see the driver mildly nervous to be within arms reach of me. I'd always just think to myself "yeah. I'm sure you've never made any mistakes that could have gotten you into trouble. Only difference between me and you, is that I got caught."

I've never been to one in a semi but have been to both a county jail and state prison while working on the ambulance. County jail was nothing just had to back in the building and make sure the garage door closed in front of the rig. Had 4 guards surrounding us at all times.
The prison... Yikes. Picture going through the same check in procedure but telling them you have needles, scalpels, narcotics and paralytics that you intend to bring in with you. If there was ever a serious medical issue they would have been dead before we cleared the check in. -
I have delivered to a maximum security prison in beeville, tx
They use a mirror on a stick to look under the truck, climb in the truck and look around, open the sidebox doors and look inside, make you leave your smokes, and pocket knife in security office.
Fun part is getting the items back when you leave snd they have had shift change. -
Buddy of mine called me this morning stating he had just delivered to an all female correctional facility in Virginia.
He left feeling violated. Like a piece of meat , from the cat-calls , and "hey baby's", and the leering stares from the meat starved inmates.
What is this world coming to when a man can't walk around in peace without being accosted verbally , or visually raped ?
He said he's gotta stop to take another shower. He just feels "dirty". -
Hey-I had a trash job for about 9 months at Arizona State Prison-Tucson.They had their security things. No real big deal.I got used to it.Other than the max security unit it was go through their sally ports then do my job.Max I had a guard ride with me.One time high risk juveniles yard clean up got into a fight.Way too close for me.
Then at another job I delivered soda pop to another Arizona State Prison.Nothing eventful there either.I'd rather deal with a prison over frozen food warehouses.teqntexas Thanks this. -
I delivered to prisons before.... Both state and federal. The check-in process is the same as any other government facility. Since the prisons I delivered too didn't have a dock, CO's and inmates both helped me tailgate the load.
