Hi all, I am new here obviously lol. I have been driving for a little over 6 years now. I lost my last trucking job thanks to the economy. I got a job offer from KKW just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with them or has any info? You know like pay, hometime, equipment, treatment, etc. I know they haul doubles and run the west. Been hauling Haz-Mat tankers (propane, chemicals, fuel) for the last 3 years and really liked it but those jobs in this area are few and far between. I have ran OTR, regional, and local. I ran teams but prefer solo. I have applied to many jobs but with no luck. The few local ones that are open seem to only want to pay $9/hr. So it looks like I'm going to have to get back into the dummy freight. Any hep or advice is appreciated.
Anyone Have Any Info On KKW???

They are headquartered in the LA area. Newer trucks, mostly Volvos & a few o/o's. They used to do a lot of furniture, now I think it's mostly general freight. They run the I5 corridor up into OR & WA, I'm not sure how far east they go. I don't cross paths with any of their drivers so thats about all I know. I'm not real impressed with their drivers, I've seen their trucks speeding & doing enough stupid things to have made a mental note of it.
PS - I'm headed to Visalia tonight. Good luck w/ your search, there should be lots of jobs in that area. You can always go haul tomatoes for a few months. -
Where you heading to in Visalia? Wherever it is I can get you there lol. I hauled ag commodities my first year of driving talk about a way to make no money in a hurry lol. Plus drive poor equipment and be the only White guy in a 100 mile radius lol. Tomatoes pay if the field is next to the processing plant otherwise it's $20 for 2-4 hours for one load, 12 hours a day, plus a 7 day work week Cali ag exemption law hours of service haha. You would be surprised about how scarce the jobs are around here yeah there' minimum wage ag hauling and going to the ports for $100 a day but anything that's decent and substantial is few and far between. I applied at some of the better companies and was competeing with 50 other applicants for one position lol. But I will digress.
Yeah that's the thing about KKW I have yet to talk to one of there drivers in person, can never seem to cross paths with one of them. The recruiter wasn't much help she was more concerned about me getting down there for orientation which turned me off immediately. The pay was standard with benefits. They drive Volvo's and Prostars. They run 53' dry van 90% of the time and 28' doubles the other 10%. The hometime is every 5-7 days with 2-3 days off. They run 11 western but have lane preferences. This is all according to a recruiter so I took it all with a block of salt. I have worked for small companies (2-10 trucks) all the way to large companies (5000+ trucks). I like doing the fringe things in trucking the things that no one wants to do or hasn't done. But will take anything that comes my way. Beggars can't be choosers I suppose.Ride-On Thanks this. -
Have you tried KLX? They are right there in Visalia, I believe. I don't know much about them except that I see some of their drivers at Coke in San Leandro & they seem relatively happy.
I don't blame you for not wanting to haul tomatoes. I hate tomato trucks, always in the way & slinging mud & juice all over my polish job. I'm not sure if Young's or Morning Star has the worst drivers. -
Yeah, I talked to KLX they said they weren't hiring right now. I'll figure something out. I would say all tomato haulers are turds. Like the guy last season that killed 6 people in a car, finished dropping his trailer and went home without a care.

I don't understand here? If you're a white driver is there a different pay scale ourside of the 100 mile radius than the one you're in? Is it a secret code or something? I could be wrong here because I was under the assumption that if you were a legal driver and had all the license required you got paid the same as any one else for that company at the same level.
BTW, if you hauled fuel with doubles you were driving a truck that is very rare because fuel trucks are not doubles.
P.S. if there is a secret pay code maybe we could set up a place where you could slip it to me, I promise I hold the secret. -
Nope you missed my point driver not too sure if you are familiar with ag hauling jobs in the San Joaquin Valley (if not I suggest you come here and check it out). They are primarily (95%) occupied by Hispanics, they pay very little, they drive very poor equipment, the company I drove for was 99% Hispanic with 90% Spanish speaking only, rough when your a English speaking white guy. Farm laborers in the fields you pick up from are 100% Hispanic the packing houses are 100% Hispanic. In the end it ends up being a language barrier for both sides. In California you need a Social Security card and a birth certificate to get a license (you can obtain those for $200 at the border). The CDL test is given in Spanish (written/verbally). I know it may be hard to swallow but there is racism/favortism in the work place. Either way the jobs pay very little and offer no benefits. I hauled many orange loads for $30 for 10 hours of work. I drove double tankers (truck trailer combo 3 compartments each) and a 45' 4 compartment single tanker when I hauled fuel. I was looking for info on KKW not here to discuss my work history. I got my answers and ended up getting a interview with Airgas. Thanks for the help.

A lot of them aren't legal though, I know for a fact, had several tell me firsthand. I have nothing against the worker, it's the business owners that piss me off, knowing they can get away with the wages they pay for that reason. Plutonomics at work.
