EZ, seems cb's are just a lot of garbage these days anyway!! Good speed though for a company truck... my last one was 63 so I'd take yours any day!!!
    Safe travels....

    Thanks everyone for the reply!
I just ordered a perch mount for the spot mirror and one for the drivers side.I have about 6 or 7 antennas in my shop to choose from.
I may try the fiberglass Wilson with the tunable tip to start with.

My factory Volvo antennas actually do a decent job with the cb and radio. Its the TV where they are a big failure.

I know this really dates me as being older than dirt, but does anyone else remember the 3 element electronically switched non directional and beam CB antennas for base stations from the early middle 70s? Those had a counterpoise element beneath each radiating element, it was part of the directional ability but the counterpoise pulled the signal down as well, from what I remember. It wascalled a Super-scanner and I used 1 for a few years there after1975.

I have thought about dropping a grounded element down to do that with the truck, but I really haven't had much issue, the hinges are right there next to the mounting of the mirror, and tied into the frame, so the grounding may be good enough.

Atmospheric conditions make day to day tweaking a crap shoot anyway.

EZ, can you pm me if you remember on a resolution to this one?

I'm about to retire the DX77 and go either a 959 or a Texas ranger with a Francis. I have the bird perch on the passenger side, but can swap to drivers.

Running same truck as you and CB performance blows.

One of our teams put coil antennas on to prevent ice breakage from this, for me, the wind pushes that 7 footer out and back and it hasn't hit the cab except maybe once that I remember, but I have to get something on it to keep ice from building up on it soon, or go to a shorter whip. Or both.

    PM sent!

I had one of those back in the 70's.....they worked great too!

LOL!....The dealer said they "worked hard with antenna designers on this one"......What BS!
They said it was to improve aerodynamics.....like a dang antenna is going to make a difference!
