Received an offer today to attend 2 week training at an Alabama school today then Cedar Rapids and on the road for 28 days with CRST. I have my CDL-A, no recent experience, tons years ago. Should I take this and run with it?
The recruiter said I get a bus ticket, arrive, have orientation, drug screen, physical (even though I had one already), sugar test (what is that, a glucose screen or something? anyone know?), 2 weeks room and board and one meal a day.
OK super truckers, you have been on the money with your advice and comments, what say you? Is this a good deal?

ive looked at them on their website. id like to know as well, from what little ive read they seem to be preety good, well above england and werner. some1 will be along shortly with better advice
captdavey22 Thanks this. -
hope so, they want me in AL the 11th.

They run an all team operation. Used to be a top notch company but recently 910-15 years) they are pretty much just another driver mill...by the way CRST stands for Cedar Rapids Steel Transport... they used to be a 99% flatbed operation.
captdavey22 Thanks this. -
You can do WAY better then CRST, there pay if Very low for team pay. There is a ton of info on here on them most of it is bad lol.You can look on YouTube for some info on them too. But if you really want to go with them Don't forget to bring some

It depends on what they have offered you per mile, if it's the standard starting pay of 22 cents per mile, I would run away, but like I said before they may treat you better as an experienced, although not recent, driver.
How much money for the training? -
$2500 for training if paid upfront, .22cpm after training for the first 3 mos if they pay for training, .26cpm if I give them the cash upfront. Contract is 8 mos. Same crap with Werner but they want $5500 but they will pay and their contract is 15 mos.
I have read so much neg and some pos. I guess it goes with the territory. I think, I will move ahead, just take things as they come, have a positive attitude as always and use the experience to my advantage.
What say you?

You can do way better then .22cpm.........why put yourself through that for .22cpm?

If you can get more money by paying up front and you can swing it, you would be best off that way.
They will make you pay if you don't fulfil the contract anyway. Personally, I would look further than either Werner or CRST. -
I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and to be honest I don't think very highly of CRST anymore. Keep in mind I am not basing this on any personal experience with the company but they have a contract with our local community college driving school which pumps out a group of drivers like every 2 weeks and throws them on the road. Even the local DOT station works with the college to pass them on their CDL test....
As someone earlier posted CRST was a good company at one point in time and for some people it may still be a good fit but in my opinion its just another driver mill...
Knowing the owner personally I can say its gotten to big and hes out of touch with the drivers. Don't let this discourage you if its something you want and its your best option at the moment but I am just giving you some heads up about what I have seen/heard.
Regardless on your decision I wish you the best of luck!
