Every time I go on hometime, I turn off and disconnect my GPS, put it in my bag, and take it home.

When I return from home time after 4 days or so, install it in the truck, and turn it on, it takes between 30 minutes and 6 hours to restore GPS position.

Rebooting the device does not work.

Resetting the device does not work.

Is there some sort of secret squirrel function to force the machine to look at satellite position data, rather than #### around and be useless for hours?

I have a TND 740. It's locked up on the black screen of death. Any ideas on how to reset or reboot it? RMD customer service so far has been worthless. I can't ever get ahold of anyone, or get them to reply or respond to my calls, messages, emails, etc.

The 730 has a tiny little button on the back just the right size to press with a ball-point pen tip. I have to use it frequently.

All you need is a big hammer, or set it under the drive tires for an hour. That is the best solution I know of.

Call Customer Support and let them know the GPS receiver is bad.

This should have went to the support thread

Rand McNally Support Thread. (Part 3)

Once again, I have returned from home time and my Rand McNally TND 730 absolutely refuses to detect GPS satellites. As normal, I repowered the device before leaving the truck, and left it repowered in my electronics bag until I returned to the truck several days later.

I have taken it 10 feet away from the truck on its power cable. I have disconnected it from its power cable and walked it into the middle of a nearly empty parking lot. I have repowered and repowered the unit, several times.

There are no clouds. I can see stars. There are no buildings over 1 story tall anywhere near me.

There is absolutely zero possible reason for the device to be so obstinately, stupidly stubborn about not picking up GPS signal.

Anyone know of any way to reliably force the Rand to look for signal, because I suspect that it isn't even bothering to look, since the conditions are so perfect.

This happened to me. I called the company. Takes forever waiting on hold. They told me to keep resetting it with a pin on the tiny button in back. Eventually it reset (found the satellites) while I was driving.

I’m sick of Rand not knowing where a address is. I might try garmin.

No, because post 5 was not a response to me.

Also, the GPS receiver works just fine, as long as I do not repower the unit and take it home.

The ONLY time.it has issues with getting GPS data is after home time.
