I've visited the BCO forum but everyone there seems to be on paper logs do they do not know anything about Elogs. My question is this.... does Landstar have a department that monitors your Elogs daily to make sure that they are perfect? Because there are rare instances where lets say for example I am really low on fuel and I am an hour away from completing a 34 restart, but if I wait an hour and then wait in line to fuel I will be late to an appointment so I would like to get 5 gallons of fuel so I can take off immediately when I finish a restart. If DOT looked at that log it would look normal, but if Landstar has computer monitoring they would probably know that I bought 5 gallons of fuel a few minutes before my restart was finished. This is how my current company that I drive for is, even though the logs look perfect and I try my best to make them always perfect, some situations you have to make a minor adjustment for it to work and shouldn't be considered a huge offense but the company punishes you since they got an alert on their end when DOT would never notice it. Please give me a serious answer since no one knows about Elogs with Landstar.
Anyone using Elogs with Landstar?

Nobody there is watching that close. There are times I have forgotten to log my fueling and they never said a word. I'm pretty sure as long as you never go over your 11 or drive past your 14 you'll never hear from the log dept.
But 5 gallons?Why only 5?

Yes I am and yes I do.
Must fuel on duty - which would trip the clock and kill your 34. Answer - pay cash for 30 gallons.
@sawmill is right - nobody watching that close. I call it the 'red flag game' , avoid raising them - because then they'll start scrutinizing.
I avoid using the personal conveyance unless absolutely needed. Friends that do abuse it have had it reduced.
It's a pain, for sure. But if you use the grey matter first, plan and plot, you can get done what needs to get did most times.
When the 'log department ' calls - for a scolding - there's little point lying , they know exactly what you've been up to. Your 'friend ' doesn't live at a steel mill, nor at a tire shop. So, I learned phrases like " I'll endeavor to be more COMPLIANT ", and "I'll be sure to operate SAFELY ".
They're 20 something year old kids that have no idea what trucks look like.
Hope that helps.thejackal, sawmill, whoopNride and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks. I wasn't sure if they only noticed if DOT catches it and gives you a citation which is extremely rare.

It's all computerized. The computers will audit your logs for fuel times and such, just like they do paper. As Blair said, pay cash for some fuel if you need it, but planning better is always the better scenario

I got a nastygram from the log dept. a few weeks ago about my April logs. A couple times I forgot to enter the BOL number. I called to make sure I didn't need to do anything other than just not do it again and the guy said no big deal, my petty log crimes are not what they are focused on. Apparently there is some epidemic with guys who don't understand they can't drive after the 11 or 14 is up. Kinda speaks to the quality of guys they're bringing on if that simple concept is an issue.

If you don't piss them off they rarely audit your logs. If you piss off a landstar company employee, they rat on you to the logs department and look at your logs and you receive an email log violation summary. (Vindictive)
I sometimes forget to switch to ON_DUTY while fueling. Many have slipped under the radar. Sometimes they catch it. All you do is call them and request them to fix it. Now if that fixing, breaks your 34 hour reset and puts you into violation, you are stuck. However if you kiss ### and ask nicely, they can fix it in a manner that shows time for fueling before or after your reset.
Since they force you to use their comdata fuel card, and use the fuel time from the comdata report, they are most likely in violation of some privacy and big brother watching laws. I think a good lawyer would put them in their place. You don't speeding ticket by the police using your EZ pass in and out times. They've tried it and failed. In some states traffic light cameras and speeding cameras lost the law battle.
Their computerized systems are a joke. I think its because their high level execs just don't care. Some are on eLogs others on Paper. Some never look at the load board and get calls directly from agents. Most of their automotive loads don't ever make it to the landstar load boards. They either get dispatched to their favorites or outsourced to outside companies. So there is quite a bit of favoritism and double standard. I hate to ramble off topic, but its the straws that are breaking the camels back.
In short Landstar is always nickle and diming their BCOs and Agents because nobody ever challenges them. You'd be lucky if you get to keep more than 50% of your hauled gross. If you are not already in Landstar, stay away. Over 50% of their posted loads do not exist and are bait and switch. About 40% are scavenger general load board freight loads where the agents get kickbacks, and make deals with customers and brokers to drive the prices lower. There is no way to reach high level executives because complaints are fielded off at a low level and do not get documented.FLFrenchie, thejackal and OOwannaBE Thank this.
