Does Swift equip trucks with APU Auxillary Power Units to eliminate the need for inefficient engine idling?

If APU are not made available is it legal to clamp a gas powered electric generator next to the catwalk and use the generator for power? What are the DOT implications of a gas generator mounted like this?

    No APUs.
I've seen a couple Swift Trucks with APUs over the years.

They have Bunk Heaters for the Winter Time...but nothing to keep cool except Idling the engine.

On the newer trucks I don't think APU's are really considered a good investment, because they only use around .5-.7 gph when on long idle.
It would take close to 400k miles to recoup the initial cost (not to mention maintenence costs), and they are retired at around 500k.

yea i know that...few companies are strict against idling giving a supposed bonus for not doin it pshsh please keep ur change id rather be nice n cool/warm...their counter argument was well u wouldnt like it if we left your car running all night...pshsh i said if u were stuck in 105+ weather please feel free to idle my car but the reality of this situation is that i live in ur truck ok 5 days out of 7 n u get to go home n be comfortable buddy so guess what im making this my home away from home n it needs to accomodate my resting needs...well u cant do that..,.well take this as my 1 week notice sir....its idle or APU never nothing.

Well, my idle time is always mentioned in my monthly review. It is always higher than what Swift wants.
Mentioned, but I have never been really threatened by it.

Bottom line is that if you are doing well in more important areas, like safety and fuel mileage and being on-time, idle time seems to take a back seat.

Yes you can carry a small generator and air conditioner on your company truck. The problem comes along when time to go to the shop, they say to take everything you value off the truck. Kinda hard to carry around a 60 pound generator and 60 pound air conditioner as well as your clothes and tv/computer etc.

Someone looks to be way too tired to write.

    But, I agree.
I have never worried about removing anything from my truck when I sent it in to the shop.

I have never been disappointed, either.

I think it is a rare thing to have a thief in a Swift shop.

It isn't the shop employee they are worried about, it's other drivers or anyone that can open a door and play grab and snatch. There are lots of keys out there that open more than the truck they came with. The key to my GMC truck used to open 2 different Columbias I had.
