I know they have a passenger policy, but I’m asking if friends / family can be on swift grounds, in your truck while on reset time? Is there any policy specifically stating they can or can’t?
Thanks in advance.
Are family members / friends allowed at swift terminals?

No other person can be in your truck without being properly insured. That means you need to get them approved as a passenger and pay the insurance for a specified time. I think the minimum time is for 6 months, but it might be 3 months.
They can visit you inside the terminal, but they can NOT set foot in your truck without the proper paperwork. It will get you fired, for the first offense, if you are caught.
And your DL could/should have told you this, if you had asked. It is probably somewhere in the driver manual also.
And you really have to look at it from their perspective.
If that person gets injured while in the truck, or climbing in or out of the truck, Swift would be on the hook - not you. And how many injuries are there every year by drivers that know the three point system, getting in and out of their truck?Last edited: Mar 19, 2025
Frank Speak, tscottme and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
You need to ask your supervisor this question. That said, I would guess they'll probably tell you the same thing @Mooseteck13 told you.
tscottme Thanks this. -
The Swift yard in SLC has a gate & guard shack to enter/leave the yard. So I don't see any non-truck driver getting in.

Obviously, they don't want non-drivers non-employees wandering around the terminal especially the parking area etc. Too easy to get in the way of trucks moving around.

Thank you @dptrucker & @Moosetek13 for the info about the Swift yard in West Valley.
dptrucker Thanks this. -
USA Truck used to have a terminal in Shreveport between exit 8 and 10 on the westbound service road. Open yard, no gate. Daytime employees only. Rooms with beds upstairs for drivers to sleep in.
A non employee was living in one of the rooms for several months before he was detected... and then evicted.
Some have a talent for reading just such a situation and blending in. You know the type. Free room and showers, complimentary towels in the cupboard. Also WIFI for his enjoyment.kylefitzy and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
The Swift terminal in Lewiston, ID is like that, except for the rooms with beds.
No gates, and pretty much no one around after dark. Someone living in their car could manage to get a shower now and then without being noticed.
They would have to time it right, to enter as an employee/driver was entering because you need the badge to get in.dptrucker and silverspur Thank this.
