I've been using then for 20 years. And my dad used them the 20 years before that. They've been around a LONG time. But before online shopping became a thing they was hard to find.

I saw a thing called an ice buster...sorta a semi-clear speed bump you adhere in the lower path of your wipers to knock the ice off of them. There is a youtube video on them, they're a whole lot cheaper than heated wipers.

When I started, heated mirrors were indeed a luxury. ( matter of fact, you were lucky to have a decent mirror at all, 1st thing to go at a truck stop) It was pretty much touch and go, and many times, you just "winged" it ( couldn't see) and hoped for the best.

Walmart, floor mats, kick outside shoes off at door, drive in socks or slippers. Keeps interior cleaner too.

Obviously i don't wear my boots in the sleeper but I'll be ###### if I'm gonna start driving in socks or slippers. Might as well sell off my chains and tarps and buy a white volvo to pull a dry van with.

Socks, slippers, dry set of "house" shoes. Whatever.

I've never seen an OTR truck WITHOUT heated mirrors. I've seen plenty of drivers unable to figure out the Volvo 30 minute/on/off switch. If the light blinks every 2 seconds it is in 30 minute mode. IMO, it should blink faster so you don't have to look at it for so long to tell which mode is operating.

I'm pretty sure the same door frame goes on whether it's heated or not, but that piece of rubber + man times costs a few extra cents each truck that can be solved by making the list price $1 higher... But for some reason, no, it's not standard... Because why charge $1 to make something standard when you can charge $100 to make it a luxury?
