Another reason to encourage the students to quit after 3-6 months! They tell them that in Columbus OH that they don't mind if they quit!

    Then the mentor pay stops!

dude...here we go again. this is the last time i'm going to try to explain it to you, because obviously you didn't get it the last time.

the mentor gets a penny a mile for each student they graduate, but they dont see that 'penny a mile' till 3 or 6 months AFTER they upgrade to solo status.

Here is where you seem to not understand.........so bear with me.....

THE MAX. THAT IS PAID OUT, WHETHER ITS ONE STUDENT OR 100 STUDENTS, IS $150 A MONTH. THAT IS MAXIMUM OF $150 A MONTH.....PERIOD. I'M NOT SAYING "$150 A MONTH PER STUDENT"...I'M SAYING $150 A MONTH........PERIOD....END OF REPORT....NEXT CASE.

repeat after me....."THE MOST A MENTOR CAN MAKE OFF THE 'PENNY A MILE' "DEAL" IS $150."

so if a student is averaging 2000 mi/wk...thats 8000 mi/mo. thats $80 a month. If the mentor, with the figures above, graduates more than 2 students who happen to last a year with Swift....the most the mentor will see from that "penny a mile" deal, will be.........................you ready?........

    $150.

dont know how much more plain i can break it down for ya......:biggrin_25513:

    ok....this time in Finnish....

ENITEN MENTOR Can Make OFF pennin kilometrin "JAA" on 150 dollaria. "

Does anyone know what the $0.05 reduction in mentor pay goes when the student is dispatched to a mentor's truck? My partner is a former mentor, he called rapid response and asked them and got the run around. First they said it was to cover the students' workmen's comp and SDI. My teammate said that student is not his employee and their response changed to that it has to do with fuel surcharge. The conversation started getting heated luckily the call was dropped out in the desert.

I can't understand $150 a month cap per graduating student. Driver would have to turn and burn 15,000 miles in a month for that. They pay the mentor a penny a mile per student who graduates-- that's part of the incentive to attract mentors who are giving up $0.05 cents per mile when the student is on the mentor's truck not to mention the $0.09 cents per mile charged to the lease operator mentors who go over 11,000 miles per month with their students. If you are being capped at $150 period no matter how many students graduate, it's time for your 5th wheel to be well lubed.

the .05 goes to swift. and swift in turn pays the student. forget what the pay is, but it isnt a flat $400 a week for the first week or two. then $500 a week for the last couple weeks. (IF those numbers are correct) What they do, is break down the pay into days. So lets use $400 for argument sake. that is paid out $57 a day that you drive under a load. if you only drive 4 loads/days or part there of, you're only getting $228 that week.

the .05 is just another way of swift to rip off the mentor. lets just assume you're a L/O, and with a student will be running 5k mi/wk. thats 20,000 mi/mo. 9k miles of that the mentor/Lease op will have to kick in ANOTHER .09 per mile (which comes off the balloon). So after 11k miles or a little over two weeks, the mentor is PAYING .14cpm for the student? the mentor will be making LESS per loaded mile than they would running MT. how F-ed up is THAT? BTW.... that .14 cpm for 9k miles means $1260 directly out of the mentor's pocket. And then lets just say the mentor is cranking out student after student and getting that $150 cap/mo in "bonus pay"....you really think that is going to off-set $1260? you're still 'in the hole' over a grand. and $$$ coming out of your pocket is 'in the hole'.

and i still dont think you understand it. I would suggest calling your DM or your FM, or better yet, call training in PHX and ask them to explain it to ya. $150 is the cap paid to the driver for that penny a mile a student runs ....AFTER....they've gone solo for 3 or 6 months....long after they've "graduated".

    Pay is $450 a week then $500.

Divide each by 7 days to get the daily rate. I got paid while sitting in a hotel room in Laughlin NV 2 different times. I got paid to do a 34 reset at home too. (they didn't know it!) You get paid to sit in a truck stop or terminal if there isn't any loads, or the truck is getting repairs.

My trainer paid for my motel and Swift reimbursed him. He is only allowed to do 6 days total while training. I did 7 as he had to go to the doctor so he paid out of his pocket for the last day.
