Are there any 3 week out, one week off driving jobs out there?

TruckerMania, I have the solution to your question.

What we do is stay out for 4 weeks then request 6 days off. We always get it approved & get to keep the truck we are assigned. Most companies will approve it if you give them plenty of notice. These companies do not want to lose good drivers so it's cheaper in the long run to give the extra days off.

Last time we were home was for 7.5 days.

I keep my schedule simple, Monday morning I leave Friday afternoon I get home and I love it. Truckduo hits on a very interesting subject. A company is not doing a good driver any favors by employing them. The driver is doing the company a favor by working for them. A good driver has options and the company is limited to a never ending stream of sub par drivers. By being a good driver you can call the shots and set your own schedule within reason. This doesn't work at mega carriers or all companies for that matter but the ones where it does will be medium to small companies.

Ok dude let me help you take off the rose colored glasses. You are probably not going to be saving much, and if home time is your issue. This is probably not the job for you. Don't think some trucking president is going to sit down and rewrite the rules that will work for you. You limit yourself in doing so. Also not everybody is willing to take the risk to hire rookies. So you are limited there as well. 1 day off for every seven worked Go in with those plans, because as soon as you go to one of these so called companies who do have those runs. Guess what. There is no room for you anymore, but you can go on our 4 week 3 days off plan. I'm just giving you the real deal and what is most likely to happen. Yes you could sign on to some LTL company and make a gazillion dollars and be home every night blah blah blah, and there's also a chance to win the lottery. So if you don't want to play the odds. Plan on being out 3 weeks and getting 3 or 4 days off. The money may be so tight you will be needing to go back to work after 2 days. Hungry truckers keep america moving ;)

Yes but you also stated you all do 4 week tours. Even the megas will reward that length of time with a few extra days. I don't think I've ever stayed out longer than 10 days ever and the thought of 6 days now, well that wouldn't happen. I think the OP is just trying to see if its possible to earn some money in trucking and not completely abandon his family. A perfectly legitimate question IMO.

You aren't abandoning your family you are working. There's a difference, and since this industry is not very driver friendly. If you value that time with your family you should choose another career. A rookie just don't have a lot of options. Either get with the program that is already set up. Or Get to Step N in another career field.

Thanks Powderblue. I am a Newbie. I do have my CDL but I have not driver in over 2 years so I'm sure I would need a refresher course. I could live with 800-1100 a week. How long is the training at Millis? In other words, how long would it be before I got my own truck and started making that 800-1100 a week?
