Are there no quality small fleet long/decent haul trucking companies in Texas?

You can live in Texas and work for a good company, for example, in Oklahoma.
Still will have home time in Texas, the same as if the company is headquarted in Texas. Won't have to pay state income taxes, because your domicile/address is in Texas.
I lived in Tennessee and never drove for a company that was headquartered in Tennessee. I still kept the benefit of not having to pay state income taxes because my domicile/address was in Tennessee. My hometime was the same as the drivers that actually lived in the states the companies were headquartered in.

Lots of companies based elsewhere have yards in Texas. I work for J Rayl Transport, who are based in Akron, Ohio. But they have a terminal in Sunnyvale (suburb just east of Dallas) that I run out of (it’s less than 3 miles from my house in Mesquite) and they run guys out of a drop yard in Houston, too. I don’t know what you’re looking for exactly, but I ran 3,000 miles last week and still got home for the weekend.

If you want small long haul reefer . Go on produce haulers on Facebook and ask around. There is alot of produce around that Hidalgo Texas area . Now it might be some crummy 2 truck owner deal so take caution

I drive for Climate Express, their based in Union, Missouri, and I live in Memphis, Tennessee. It doesn't matter where a company is based, but moreso their freight lanes. If they have freight that can get you home, that's the most important thing.

I get all of that. My biggest wonder was why, given Texas is such a large state, and is ideally situated in the middle of the southern part of the country, there aren't many/any outfits like Climate or the aforementioned companies here. Not really a matter of getting home or anything like that. I mean, we have most of the megas here, Schieder, KLLM/FFE, Swift, etc et al, but no "out and back" or "coast to coast" great little companies like those I listed down here.

I worked for KTS and Magnum...not exactly in Texas lol. So I get all of that. I gotta question your mention of not having to pay state income taxes tho. I've had to pay both Utah and ND state taxes when I drove for KTS and Magnum. Not that that is a big concern of mine, when it comes to picking a company.

The company I work for is based in Ohio. I’m a Texas resident, and I sure don’t pay Ohio a penny in taxes.
