That sounds like a better school than most with the long track. However, there is a school somewhere in or near Akron that actually has you go out with a trainer and pick up a live load (real load) and deliver it in West Virginia, and deadhead back. Now thats what real training is.

The local junior college here (crowder college) does this as well. They have a great program if you can afford the $4000 to get through it, they even do live on the truck skid recovery and rapid lane change training.

There is a school in Drumright Oklahoma that has three miles of paved roads inside the facility, For in state people last time I checked it was 2500. and out of state people its 4 grand. This includes housing , meals and tests. And there are only 2 students per truck. After the 2 week you go on a 150 mile drive where you drive one way and your partner drives back. This is the number one rated school in the state and has been in business since 1969. I wish Id known about it sooner. And if you qualify for the grants / ITS FREE. You can find this school on google earth. Its huge and the test roads look amazing.Last edited: Aug 4, 2013

I attended and completed training at Central Tech in '06. Was 4 and a half weeks. Cost $2,650. I live in Tulsa and made the daily commute. They do offer housing. It includes thorough classroom and driving training. Yeah, the course is on site and is large and paved. Nothing like the gravel lots w cones that ya sometimes see. One truck for every two students. Had about 15 students in class and they were starting a new class every week, I think. Recruiters from various trucking companies visit during final week. Tyson was one of them. I hooked up w em right out of school and am still w them. It's a really solid school that will absolutely prepare you for becoming a driver...to the extent that any school can. After all, there's no substitute for getting out there in the real world, right? You'll leave w your CDL, hazmat and be ready to go.

Prime is one on one, large paved area with 5 sections to practice backing maneuvers. After all said and done , if you pass your CDL test and finish up with the TNT phase you will have a job. With prime you don't have "job placement assistance" to "help " you get a job. All of these schools, teach you to DRIVE a truck, with prime you get a leg up and learn to be a TRUCK DRIVER.

What,..? One load ? Woohoo, with prime you do many ( many more than just one) loads during training. All over the country. We don't do just some little 400 mile puddle jump.
with prime by the time you are done with training you will have been on the road with a trainer for at least 40,000 miles. They make sure you are trained and comfortable with driving before they turn you loose on your own. -
Im kinda in the same situation I obtained my cdl through a (beer) beverage company....the only thing I was trainned on automatic never learned to drive 10speed......so my skills are limited and im tired of the local hard work (handtruck 10-15stops unloading beer) In the process of attending Prime so I can have the skills to work smarter not harder when I come off the road as OTR driver! Any advise anyone??????
