    True.

Just overwhelmed by the company enslavement, it is worse than joining the service, at least you get a furlough and are allowed a drink on it.

Don't want to argue with you, so don't take this that way. I know for a fact my company doesn't care about us having a drink or four while off duty. Their alcohol policy is very clear, don't being it on the years, don't have it in the truck, and don't drink to the point that you can't do your job the next morning. Office staff also may not drink with drivers, that means if I go to a bar and my coordinator is there with her friends, she has to leave if she has had a drink. Completely unfair to them, but it's the policy. Another policy that isn't specific about alcohol is, when you go out for a night around town, don't embarass us.

My point is very simple, not all carriers are created equal. Some of them treat you like adults. Going out for a few drinks is fine, drinking too the point of blacking out and getting arrested is not fine and you will lose your job.

I actually think the FMCSA needs to rethink its drug and alcohol policy. I see nothing really wrong with a driver while off duty having a beer or two even in his truck, and honestly considering all the beer cans I have seen in truck stop parking thousands of drivers do it anyway. I also don't get all that excited about a driver reasonably smoking marijuana either while off duty. I don't now drink and I have never smoked. However when I did drink a mixed drink or two before bed relaxed me and I slept really good. There is also a lot of research into the painkilling properties of marijuana. I have chronic pain in my shoulders that THC might help. So please understand I am not trying to be an ### with my previous comments in this thread. I just don't want new drivers to make possible career ending mistakes.

I'm not at all saying companies will fire while drinking off duty.heck most don't care but what I am saying is do not step foot in the truck untill you are completely sober.your company has a no alcohol in trk policy which all companies have the same policy. Even though you may be relieved of all your onduty activities you are still responsible for babysitting your equipment.even if you smell of alcohol you better make sure no-one calls your company because they will take the word of the caller and you'll get a call from safety to go take a test.

You misunderstood, no alcohol in truck means just that. Don't bring it back with you. But you can come back to the truck after drinking. Jesus, when in louisville at our headquarters, security regularly takes guys downtown to drop them off, and picks them back up. I rarely drink anymore, but when i do, its almost always because i stopped for the night or weekend at our yard.

The point is, some companies treat you like an adult, but expect you to behave like one. Have a few, come back and get a good night's rest in your truck. Don't embarass them, and don't bring one for the road back with you.

Your company is more lenient then most.drivers are under microscope no matter what they do and it doesn't take much to get fired these days.from the time they start employment till they quit or get fired they re on a short leash.sad this industry is so controlled but it is what it is.between the motor carriers and Fmcsa drivers don't have a chance.I very much doubt any of these starter comanies will allow their drivers to sleep in the truck after a few drinks if someone tattled on them.more people then not make a mountain out of a molehill when they don't have a clue.
