what a moron. Does he know he can get a ticket if he hasn't approved his logs within one or two duty status changes. Elogs are not considered up to date unless they've been approved.

In the strictest sense, if you pull into a scale and they ask to see the logs, it should show the status before driving, the driving, and on duty for current status if you parked the truck as the only things not approved.

If just setting the break and handing the unit out the window with engine still running on the scale (which happened to me once) it should show your status before driving and your current status driving.

It's considered logs not updated to current status. Just like paper.

btw since you can't do anything with your log while driving, it's impossible to approve the duty status you were on before driving until you stop the truck

You have until Thursday during your first week at orientation to get your CDL permit. We recommend you get your permit at home before coming to orientation... takes a lot of the stress out of that first week.

So, if you lease a Prime truck, are you stuck with the loads they find or can you find your own loads too? If you are sitting for awhile can you contact a broker and get rolling again?

No. You can not freelance here. You can however decline loads if they don't pay what you need them to or go to an area like NYC. Do your due diligence before you lease.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how that worked, not very interested in L/O yet, but maybe down the road I may look into it.

I'm still new to using this system. I'm used to using the Trek unit. You wait till the end of the day to sign your logs so I was waiting till the end of the day to approve them. I didn't know I could approve them throughout the day.

Honestly I'm not willing to go lease just because I was burned by another company. I have looked long and hard into the program here at prime and it set up well compared to others. But at the end of the day your still paying more for the truck then what you would pay if you were to buy one out of a dealers parking lot brand new. I personally want to own my own rig like one of my uncles do. But I'd rather buy it used(not depreciating 20% once you leave the lot) your payments (with good credit and 20+% down) your payments will be low bringing your Cost Per Mile lower and your profit larger.

If you budget and find things you can cut out of spending and not but everything you want right now and wait till later to get it then you should be able to set a strict budget you can live off of and put enough away over the next 1-3yrs to put down 20% min with equipment such as tarps and that type of gear already paid for. If you wanna go reefer then you should have load locks and all that.

Its not not easy living on a very strict budget but if you can't live off of a budget you set for your home expenses your not going to make a living off of a business plan you create. Despite what some say you can't fly buy the hip on running your own truck. Fuel will be the biggest variable cost you will have. Running at higher speeds causing your fuel efficacy to drop can cause your fuel cost to go up 15-30k more a year. In return your income will go down.

You can get a cost per mile spreadsheet and put in your own data from how you run a company truck to give you a general idea of what your cost would be. From that all you need is to do is add up your IFTA, tags, insurance, maintenance, loss of income due to breakdowns, fuel efficiency exc. this is a business you can make a good living or lose all you have just depends on how you run your business.

What is the cost breakdown that a student has to pay back if they don't complete a full year with prime? (3 months? 6 months?)
