Fuel routing is a dynamic route like what a GPS would give you. It isn't a set in stone "bean counter approved" static route. It will change depending on where you are when you send in the request for fuel routing. Just go the route you want to take and then ask it where to fuel. It will figure out what route you are taking and give you recommendations for that route. There is some leeway, you can ask every 6-8 hours or ask your FM to reset the fuel routing so you can send in another request. There is some flexibility, you aren't stuck with the first thing it spits out.

If you know it wants you to stop at someplace that is packed to the gills because it is a penny a gal cheaper, and you could spend an hour waiting for fuel, just skip that stop. skip it and ask again (qualcom macro) for fuel routing and it will send you somewhere else along the route.

L/O can go wherever and the fuel macro is optional.

Ahh so it is flexible. I always wondered about that since I started out with Stevens and they told you where to roll, where to fuel except as a lease OP. Even then you were to take the route they wanted you to take lol.

I'm sure if you asked a FM about what to do they might tell you to send in a fuel request before you leave and that you need to follow it to a T. No way, that's just a defacto by-the-book "quick" answer to cover their but. You know what I'm taking about? ;) If you know what you are doing, and it won't make you late, it's nothing to worry about. Just go the route you want first and then ask for fuel routing.

Sounds about right. So on the fuel routing, do they have a particular preference? For example my current carrier is cool with you fueling at pilot/FJ, loves and the occasional TA/Petro but by all means if there is a loves available, pick it.

It's fairly random what places it want's you to stop at. It's common to stop at the same place in certain areas but it could send you to someplace just to fill a quota so Prime can keep their discount there as they need to buy so many gallons.

You can't really choose, just request again and hope for the best. heh

It also looks at IFTA taxes in the equation, but I doubt it makes much of a difference, and not something I would loose sleep over.

That's Queens though. You've had deliveries into NYC? I was under the impression we didn't go there. Areas around it yea, but not actually into NYC.

I've been on the FedEx area at the Newark airport in NJ twice to getting loads. You turn around a back up right next to their planes.

There have been many occasions over the years, but.... yeah not a regular thing. Definately can be a challenge at times.

JFK runways was just a favorite memory. Actually ran down runway w/escorts, beside runway w/planes taking off smack next to me.

Newark Fed Ex is a regular thing, though.

Most of times, stuff going into heart will get dropped in NJ. They have guys that live local & more familiar to actually run them in. Former student was thinking of doing something like that, as he's a native & knows every nook & cranny of area like the back of his hand. Crazy SOB!

    The quota...... LOL

    Always makes me laugh.

Can have one place down street, even across street cheaper...... but, macro sends you to other.

Always knew about this, but just made me chuckle.

It isn't often, but definately another reason folks should be diligent on watching their fuel costs.

Always run QC recommendations for back up, but do not follow very often. Can do better most of the time, but not always. Just the same as w/routing.
