Believe me. DOT looks for those irregularities when they do log audits on Trucking Companies. Your employer WILL GET CAUGHT. You don't need to get caught up in that mess. DOT Auditors ARE NOT STUPID PEOPLE!

We used to do that on paper logs. That's why all the old timers retired millionaires when ELD came out.

I think you know the answer, but I’ll say it anyway. Yes, it’s a violation to move the load forward under personal conveyance. And it wouldn’t stand up under any kind of DOT scrutiny.

Not only would using PC in that situation have been illegal and thus a violation... It would have been extremely easy to see it in your log, even a quick cursory glance at your log book would spot it. As others have said... Find another company.

Dont get me wrong, I've bent the rules to suit what I wanted a time or 3. But it was my personal decision, not pressure from a company. And I at least did it in such ways that would be very difficult to prove (but not impossible) that the move was indeed an illegal one, and thus a violation.

Not all of them retired millionaires.....many of them are still out here. I have been around long enough to see paper and elds....I didn't see that much of a pay difference between using paper and elds. I'll go so far to say that I make more on elds than I did on paper.

Ever know anyone in an abusive relationship and wonder how it all started? This is how.

In the old days, a hot load paid DOUBLE your normal rate. But the travel agent would have weaker drivers that would run like a madman for their own usual pay rate. Once they realize that they can abuse you, abuse is all you are going to ever see.

Although I've only been a driver for a bit over a year, I've had plenty of life experiences to understand certain things. That said:
YOU are 100% responsible for the safe and legal operation of your truck. NEVER, under any condition, cede that authority to another. Actually, you can't. It is yours and if you allow someone else, for any reason, to get you to do something you believe to be unsafe or illegal, it is on you.
The dispatchers soul is not in that truck, yours is. The dispatchers license is not at stake, your is.
If your company does not give you complete authority to operate legal and safe (for you), they are simply not worth working for, go find another company and don't look back.
100% you have the authority to make those decisions because 100% you are ultimately responsible.

The second job I had in trucking asked me to buy a second log book and head out across country on my 7th day out. I quit that day. Don't let an employer force you into fudging your logs. It's illegal for them to suggest it, and illegal for you to do it.
