Your employer is billing the costs of tolls into his rates. Just the cost of doing business in Chicagoland. Hopefully you're paid hourly and get compensated for the all the time you waste in traffic. US41 isn't terrible but there is no comparison to the toll road. Traffic is always light up north before the state line.

Next time you are on any IL toll road, ask the toll collector for a toll road map. The map is free. This map will tell you what directions you can get on and off the toll roads. It will also tell you the cost for each exit/entrance. Some exit/entrances are free. That is what I did when I ran Chicagoland.
The following route will cost around $2.50 daytime(10pm - 6 am)/(for 5 axles) to get off I94 SB/EB at either Rt 137, Rt 60, or Rt 22...
If your stop in Libertyville is near I94, you can take US41 south from the WI/IL line to Rt 21(turn rt at the light), go a mile or two to Rt 132 ( I think it is Grand Ave)/(turn rt (west) at the light...be sure to swing wide), and this will take you to I94 south (you can jump on here for free). Take I94 SB/EB to your exit.
Or you could probably stay on Rt 21 to the Libertyville area.
I never found a quick way to get through the Rosemont area. You might want to just pay the toll...I agree with what Animal said.
Hope this was somewhat useful.Dark_Majesty_06, Aminal, semi retired semi driver and 1 other person Thank this. -
Lots of stop and go lights if you avoid the toll roads
in Illinois
i was just there the other day. -
Highway 41 over by I94 or farther west go south on 45. when I come from Milwaukee going south. I travel Hwy 100 to 45 south to Illinois than east on 120 to 41 south back onto I94. Not sure how to get to the different cities you asked about. Usually I just go thru Chicago and I never take the tolls. They get enough of my money as it is. Safe travels.

I don't know what you all think, but my opinion is that the more traffic lights you have, and stop and go traffic, the more fuel you use. Then there is always the chance of having an accident because someone decided to dart out of McDonalds in front of you.

Careful with Illinois highways -- many have a 65' length limit and small towns love to enforce it...
