Yard guys are good backers obviously since they do it all day, but then again they've got those tiny hostlers. Put em in a 260" wb road rig and see if those narrow aisles don't get a little narrower![]()

Try the Javits center in manhatten. with a 310 inc wheel base with a 51 ft electronic van... had to start my back in..then un-hook then back under it again then get it in the dock..then unhook and park my tractor to the side. had to have a yard dog take it out...

I envy you guys that back those huge rigs. Ive backed up my share of 53' trailers in my day, but ive never been over the road, so Ive never had a sleeper berth on there to deal with. Now Im in the food service delivery business, and i have to say as hard as big trucks and trailers must be, trying to back up pup trailers is no joke. Those little sons of guns run away on you pretty quick when you arent used to them

The company I currently work for pulls mostly 28 foot trailers with day cabs. This is my first driving job. everything I drove when I went to school was 53 with sleepers. It took me sometime to get used to. First time running solo I went to a local wal mart to deliver. Took me a good ten minutes to hit the dock. The reciver rode me pretty well over it. My response to her was Did I hit anything, was anyone wanting for a dock, was i hindering any other drivers? she didn't really know what to say at that point. With a little practice ive gotten better. Ive watched seasoned drivers back into all kinds of objects. Watched a driver with the company for ten years back into a fence trying to sneak around the back side of a small party store. Take your time. You may think that people are looking at you or making fun of you, but if you hit something they will be looking and making fun you eve harder. Ive ran into some major jerks that think there gods gift to the trucking industry and ive meet some real down to earth guys.

ha ha, yeah going from a 53' to a 28'....looks like ya dont know how to back up.....lol we used to pull doubles, and sometimes had to break a set at the term. and drop one at the dock....ha ha funnyyyyy..., til we got used to it...def. different thats for sure

HAHA one thing that can make you look bad really quick is going from a 48' trailer to a 25' beaver tail pintle hitch flatbed behind a tri-axle dump truck...

its easy being a yard jock,no sleepers, small truck, half the size plus you have a back window.Get out and look on backing
