Look like all prefab stuff... wonder if he had belly straps or just threw a bunch over the top. Guys lucky for sure.

What do you expect, he had straps, and before some of you get bent out of shape, I can see that it’s painted/coated steel. I would still use chains but use softners to keep the shipper happy.

The load shifted from just slamming the brakes? Should have used chains.

    TheLoadOut and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Structural does its best to kill you every second that it is on your trailer.. some of the most dangerous freight haul .. even more so than say coils or similar.. I always use cross chains on the front to prevent stuff like this and slow way down when running highways with stop lights or things that sneak up on you and got to hit the brakes in a hurry..

I can’t quite tell due the extent of the damage but it looks like the Cascadia had a headache rack behind the cab as well..
Driver is going to need a lottery ticket or two.

I’ve hauled a bunch of structural steel from Afco Metals, man that junk all different sizes, some he like a foot maybe two long on top, 13’6 high, 8-10 tiers. You’d climb all over and throw the small pieces in gaps to the deck or in between other pieces.

Good eye . I think you are right. Can see the bottom of the rack underneath the bottom beams..

Coils are equally as dangerous IMO and like you I always find some sort of way to stop it from forward movement. Anything is better than nothing.

Once the momentum starts the real problem begins so anything that slows (or preferably stops) that process from starting is going to help.

Sometimes it's a bulkhead made from my dunnage. Sometimes it's cross chains/straps. Etc etc.

Everyone likes to claim headache racks don't protect you and I agree they aren't shields but every little bit helps and I feel confident that if that rack wasn't there those beams would have made contact with the driver.
