I remember calling my logs dept when my qualcomm went down. They said you need to switch to paper logs. I said "no problem how do I obtain my logs for the last 8 days?" They replied "for what? " I explained that I need to have my previous weeks logs in the truck. They replied "you do? I will have to look into that" LOL. I think I will get my advice from the actual idiots (the gov) who write and enforce these rules. I called them back with a fax # and said send my logs here please. And they did.

If you're not in the truck, and not performing any work related tasks, then that needs to be logged as off duty. There are no FMCSA regs that say you cannot log off duty while under a load assignment. The truck isn't a jail.

If you're at a chain truck stop, you can have your company fax logs over to you.

I just forwarded your information to the super secret, DOT sleeper compliance patrol, and you are going to prison for logging 'sleeper berth' while you were really probably watching the cartoon channel in your room at the Microtel.

You are either in the truck, or not in the truck. Some anal DOT will even write you up for logging 'sleeper berth' if you are sitting in the driver or passenger seat in a parked truck.

That's pretty much what I did. Was at a Walmart had them faxed there.

I just found it amusing that the person on the phone from logs was a little puzzled at to why I needed to keep the previous weeks logs in the truck.

That is the point I decided I would never listen to logs again and get my info from the actual HOS regs

As a truck driver who must complete logs as per fmcsa rules it's our (your) job to know what's OK. It should be pretty obvious that logging sleeper berth requires that you be in the sleeper berth.

Sleeper berth is that area behind the seats, has a bed. If your body is not physically in there, do not show logs reflecting such.

Falsifying logs is a big deal. What do you say to the DOT when they ask you what you ate or where you went to the restroom after showing 96 hours in the sleeper?

Maybe this will help clear up the sleeper berth question.
