First and foremost, if you look at my post history; you’ll find that I did not have the best first introduction to being a professional driver. The long and short of this post is to assuage the fears of anybody looking to jump to a local/small company. I worked for 2 “nationally known” carries and had, without a doubt, the worst experience ever working for a nation-wide company. The first one decided that my pre-existing condition was grounds for delaying my hiring process. The second was as anti-employee as you could get. During orientation I make a quip about how “if you have to say your so pro-employee; then you’re probably anti-union” and lo and behold I was pulled aside and coerced into playing along and not bringing up unions again. I quit 2 months later and went back to my first corporate position. After about a year with no changes (either pay or trust) I decided to start looking toward another direction. The company I am currently with has been one of the best companies and experiences I have had in the past 3 years. I’m not naming them as we are a very small company, but I get 3k+ miles a week at 0.55/m (after taxes) and 0.12/m per diem and don’t want any other competition taking away my miles. Needless to say you shouldn’t take posts that detract from smaller companies at their word; and nothing ever changes if you don’t do your research.
Been with 2 “corporate” carriers and then I found…

My worst experience driving was with a big company and my best was with a small company. And all of them reinforced the idea that trucking is just another industry that churns through employees instead of trying to nurture a long term relationship, it's just that the smaller company wasn't anywhere as bad about it as the larger ones were.
TurkeyCreekJackJohnson, badreligion83 and TB John Thank this. -

You know what? Not kidding. Bad Religion was my absolute favorite band in 1983. I was 15 years old and Los Angeles HC was my life. That first BR LP was everything. You could say I was a nightmare for my family. I thought I knew what Christianity was about.
I've come a long way since then. I can't stand who I was then and wish I hadn't made so many mistakes. Those mistakes have made my life more difficult than needed.
I'm a conservative, and a clean and sober adult now. It's strange to see that on an avatar.PpreciateItHaaaan, badreligion83, TB John and 6 others Thank this. -
