Just finished C-1 Driving School. Waiting to make my initial phone call to the USA training center on Tuesday. Anything I should know? Ask for? Anything specifically that I should make a point to discuss with them? Thanx for any helpful info you can give!!!!

Are you with USA? What kind of miles are you getting now in this slow economy?

Be humble, do your year, get your school paid for and move on when you feel the time is right( I drove for 2 yrs before I left) know you DM works for you, not the other way around , so if it gets to the point you feel like it's all messed up and you have thought's of quitting early dancing in your head, STOP, take a breath, before you end up owing C1 about $5000.00 for 2 and 1/2 weeks , request a new DM, it took me 3 tries to get a guy I worked good with, we had over 18 months together before I left. BEWARE of nights/weekend dispatchers....(the reason I left) stay out of the terminals unless you had to be there, and don't get caught up in all the boohoo'ing in the driver's lounge = I was on a Larado TX run , stopped for PM service in W. Memphis.. and was in the Driver's lounge for a couple hours while the shop had the truck, so I got to hear all the I can get no miles here BS from a group of drivers sitting at a table behind me, when I came back from Texas 2 and 1/2 days later two of the guys were still there, and still complaining... mean while I was pulling another 3000 mile week in... and most of all just be safe , don't hit nothing and you should be alright...

no problem on the info, glad to help... I started right off after my trainer time , 1st load went to Longview TX from springfield OH... your trainer,, it all depends mine was ok, he was on a dedicated account and went home on weekends, so I spent my weekends in a Motel 8 in Evansville IN, and because of that and good friday falling in my training period I had to stay for 5 weeks instead of 4... when I went solo I would stay out for 5 weeks and then go home for 5 days, but I was single and I have no kids so I could hit a groove and churn out the miles , rest for 5 days and do it all over again, my best 7 day pay period with USA I collected 4508 miles all on one check(legally) had a 3000 mile california run to sherwsbury MA , with a 34hr reset on the way( started on Tuesday the week before after delivering to california after coming off hometime)ran back to springfield MA for a Haz-mat (paint) load to greensboro NC, and picked up a greensboro Haz-mat (paint again) load going to Waco tx, had to reset in Shreveport LA and handed in 4508 payable... had a string of 3000+ mile weeks that was like 14 or 15 in a row not counting home time weeks, but that was winter 06/07....

I too plan on going 5 wks on/5 days off. what is the average bring home for running like that. Also did you get reimbursed for the motel time during training. Plus the 350.00 per week. Also, what are your thoughts on the per diem. Should I accept that. What's the difference in mileage pay. I'm told mI'llbe starting out at .27 per mile what is the mileage pay if I take the per diem? How much will they give me per diem? I'm thinking of taking it from now til the end of the year because I don't think I'll excced my standard deduction in 3 1/2 months. I'll switch to no per diem at the beginning of the year. Sound smart?
