I was born and raised in SoCal. I would consider the Inland Empire area almost all the big LTL companies have terminals in Fontana, Rialto, Bloomington and San Bernardino areas. It’s definitely not as nice as say Newport Beach but it’s much cheaper. My sister rents a 1bd apartment in Irvine and that runs her $2200 that same apartment in a decent area in Inland Empire would probably be about $1600ish.
La area last I checked was pretty close to as expensive as OC unless your in a gang infested area than maybe a bit cheaper but not much.

Hi, You know I think you have the best idea already . Carson , and live in Carson , Long Beach, Torrance. Those citys are the closet to the beach. I Think in Socal. every city is going to have undesirable places. In Orange and Irvine less , but it is much more expensive. I am curious if where you will be recording is in Los Angeles , like Burbank or around there Irwindale would be a good choice . But none of them are very close to the beach. I don't like living far from the Beach . Too far inland , gets too hot and the people are more cranky. I think Long beach for living , working and music , your next gig in Carson it wont be such a big move to Malibu , when you make it in Music :) Good luck Keep us posted.

Thanks for the encouragement! It will probably be a while before I roll up to my home in Malibu, but it’s nice to dream. I was just wondering how Long Beach is as an area to live. I grew up listening to Eazy-E and NWA and all I ever heard about was how bad Compton is and that’s right down the street. I hope it has improved for the better.

You are welcome. It is all relative I guess. I grew up in Compton, then they changed the boundaries to Paramount and they all snuggle up to each other. There isn't a place I know of that is not close to a bad place. Los Angeles everyone likes to pick on it, and I had a great childhood in the hood ..LOL. The main reason I am not wild about it ,is because it is too crowded. It takes three times the amount of time to get anywhere. Time is LIFE. Long Beach has a some nice "pockets" is what I call them. Try looking in the Bixby Knolls area. I am in the PNW now , but I have a nice little pocket in Los Angeles, and just recently seems like property everywhere has taken a huge jump. I really can't advise city living . Asphalt , cement, plastic , they re not healthy for you , like living close to the ocean in a forest. But we do what we gotta do and we can be happy doing it , happiness is an inside job. If you or any of us are not happy right where we are now , we won't be happy ten or ten thousand miles away. It has been a very long time since I was running in the streets of Los Angeles, and playing in the "river" bed next to the Long Beach freeway (and I am still alive ) But you can find nice pockets. You can make your dreams come true as well. There are nice areas in Montebello , but it is inland , Whittier as well but again inland Cypress and Buena park, are next to Long beach as well. But I think you will be happy no matter where you are good luck in your search. Always remember nothing is written in stone. If you don't like a spot you pick , go for another. check out Manhattan , Redondo, Playa del rey. I haven't seen them in years but it is the beach. None of the bad places are as bad as they were a few years ago. You will find a good spot. I think Long Beach is a happening spot night life is dead now because of covid , but it was and will be again a good night life spot. Daytime too ...some huge great parks .

Living near the beach is pricey, however Long Beach is less than Newport Beach. What is your reason for living near the beach? Ocean air to breath in ? Or you actually want to go to the beach often and lay on the sand, or you just want to hob-nob with the elite crowd ! ! Compton and San Pedro/Harbor city were always bad areas as were S.central L.A. ( I grew up in Santa Monica) You can live in an area maybe 10 mi from the beach and drive there in 20 min with good traffic. FYI, some beach areas are infested with tourists on weekends, so it will feel like your neighbor hood is being over run, with all the traffic and people parking in front of your house, kinda' like driving past the local high school at 230 pm when they are getting out of class. You get to wait at an intersection while 125 bubble-gummers S-L-O-W-L-Y walk across the intersection all laughing and giggleing, right ? :bootyshake:
