I have 2 as well. AT&T for my primary talking phone and Boost (Sprint) that I use strictly to tether to my laptop.

AT&T does a fine job for the area I run (nothing west of Houston) and Boost does a great job for the internet. Yes, Boost/Sprint has dead zones but it doesn't matter because I'm driving thru those dead zones and not stopping.

I have used a Verizon MVNO (aka "prepaid") and there are areas an actual Verizon account has signal but the prepaid does not. Western Kentucky going up I-65 and Maryland/West Virginia on I-81 are two areas that come to mind.

There use to be dead spots in OK for Verizon prepaid (and other independent prepaid carriers like Tracphone that use the Verizon prepaid network)

Sprint served me well OTR. My partner had att and it had slightly better coverage.
    This was 2012.

From about 2001 until I retired I was using Bell South Mobility, Then they become Cingular and then after the (Texas-based AT&T) buy out of Bell South AT&T. Back about 2003 time frame I got angry at them and tried Verizon. I was getting disconnected a lot, and for some reason had horrid problems in East Texas. Then have them to blame it on my phone. I went back to (NOW) AT&T after about 6 months and stayed there until late in 2012 when I retired. I now use Metro, it's cheaper I get great service and I am happy. I also rarely get out of Hampton Virginia either. If I were still driving there is a good chance I would go back to AT&T.

Today I think the coverage areas of AT&T, Verizon and some of the other carriers is MUCH better than it was 15 years ago. As long as you stay with a nationwide carrier I don't think it matters that much anymore. However, for OTR drivers I highly recommend you get the coverage that covers your carriers primary traffic lanes. I would place this coverage over pricing. One more point on coverage. That blazing speed you enjoy on that 5G phone no matter what carrier you choose is generally not across 100% of that coverage area. You are also looking for quality of coverage too.

If you wind up deciding you want to try AT&T, Cricket Wireless runs off of their towers and is a LOT cheaper. When we only had 2 lines, they were $40 each for unlimited everything. We can use any phone we want and we were able to keep our phone numbers. We have driven to Mississippi from Ohio, Virginia, etc. Great service and customer service.

In addition, if you wind up needing more lines, we have 4 lines at $100 a month total for unlimited everything. Plus they are month to month. No contract, if you decide they aren't what you want, you just disconnect service and there are no additional fees.

Straight Talk has Verizon ATT&T and T-Mobile. You can Bring Your Own phone and get Straight Talk SIM card put in almost any phone, it has to have the antennas of course. I just got a Moto G7 Power phone. Motorola put all the antennas on the phone. So I got a Verizon SIM card from Straight Talk. $55 a month unlimited talk and text and 60GB of 4G LTE high speed data, after 60GB they slow it down. I believe it only work on Verizon or the same as their prepaid network.

Out west like Wyoming Verizon has contacted with another company. So if your a Verizon customer you have cell phone and data. If your on Verizon prepaid or Straight Talk it only works on towers Verizon actually owns.

I just look the other day Verizon has unlimited data and talk for like $75 a month. So for $20 more a month you can have every were. Look at Verizon pre paid coverage if that good enough then you can go with Straight Talk or something. If you want customer service you better go directly to Verizon. You don't get much customer service with a company like Straight Talk

I’ve only tried T-Mobile, Cricket Wireless, At&t, and Verizon. Hands downs At&t and Verizon are the cellphone service providers for OTR or regional drivers. If you’re a contractor or an independent o/o, you should definitely use At&t and Verizon. Their reliable networks will pay for themselves. These two companies used to be very expensive and did not offer unlimited data. As of 2017, they both went unlimited. I have Verizon’s highest unlimited data plan, and I pay $104 per month with a fully paid phone. I have data just about everywhere. It’s the real deal.

It wouldn't surprise me, but I couldn't begin to tell you the last time I was in OK...... I've been with my current employer for almost 13 years and it was very early in my employment with them.
