Is your 12.7 "neutered"? I'm getting ready to do the the PM on my 14.0. I always use Delo, but looking over my past invoices and oil sample reports, I noticed that Speedco was alternating between the Delo 400 XLE SB SAE 15W-40 and the 400 SDE CK-4/SN SAE 15W-40. I'm kind of pissed about that. So which one should I go with now? All my oil samples have been amazing for the last two years, so the different oils really haven't made a difference. As a matter of fact, the TBN on every one of the reports said I could have run the engine for 3 or 4 thousand more miles than what I had been running. So this time I ran for 17,000 miles to experiment.

Should I go with the synthetic blend? It says it has a better flow rate, especially at lower temperatures.

I've come to the camp of 'Oil is Oil' when it's these pre-emission engines. I've had Rotella, or Delo 15-40 (or whatever he had) in it from when I blew the oil cooler @sawmill shop - and I'll be darned if the last oil sample came back just as good as what I was using,

Has 30,000 miles on a half and half mix -

    Mine is 550hp/2050 tune.

Most important thing to know about oil is it must be changed and filtered. Sampling it will give you enough information to know how often you can get away with oil changes. The additive package may differ slightly from brand to brand but in the end they all must meet API specs just the same.

Lots of people will have anecdotal evidence of why one brand or another works better but in the end it all boils down to personal preference.

im running 15k oil changes, mpg and consumption are the same whether i run delvac 1300, rotella t4 or harvest king brand 15-40, its all ck4 or better which meets the 3406e requirement, given that, ive been going with the cheapest available (5 gal pails of some no name farm store stuff on a sale at 54.99 [normally 70$] is my current stock for next 2 changes vs rotella at 74.99)

Whatever you do, buy in bulk and never at a truck stop, thats the big takeaway

    gekko1323 Thanks this.
