looking at getting into flatbeds will finish school in two weeks and have been reading the post about the different companies. my question is between maverick and tmc which company would be able to get me the best and most consistant home time with me living in charlotte nc. also from those already driving with these companies what could i expect as a realistic pay for a new driver each week based on your experience. just would like some honest info not interested in hearing anybody bashing the other company.
best company for hometime maverick or tmc

maverick is the best choice

My suggestion would be to post that question on each of Maverick's and TMC threads and see what kind of answer you get. Have seen more threads on Maverick and there's a cat there called NOTARPS that seems to give you both the good and bad and is not afraid to be honest either way.
Need4Speed and notarps4me Thank this. -
Also having a "duh" moment here.
Its pretty much consistant between OTR companies that you get 1 day off for every 7 out. Want more HT? Find a regional or local job.

If Maverick is anything like LJ Kennedy probably between 900-1000 a week, if you are paid around 40 cpm, with tarp and load/unload pay. And "home every weekend"(if you run your ##### off on Friday and get your load off real early enough). Otherwise, your weekend will probably be a 34 hour restart with maybe a few extra hours thrown in.
Don't go with TMC, I have been talking to their drivers, and while they get paid ok, and get decent hometime if they want it(but i guess the miles go to the drivers who will stay out longer), they are always talking about how they are going to dodge the tollroads, and they end up running a bunch of goofy routes since they don't have ez pass. I would think just learning to flatbed( a job in itself) and getting used to trucking would be enough without having to worry about advances and dodging toll roads. And their trucks only do 62, from what i understand? -
I think flatbed gets you home more though, on mavericks website they talk of "home every weekend", so do a lot of other flatbed companies. It is too hard to run flatbed legally and have anything left over on your 70 after 5 days, unless you are getting LONG runs with minimal line 4 time.
A lot of days I have almost equal times for line 3 and 4, because you are waiting to load/unload, or taking time to tarp/untarp/strap/chain your loads. -
I would holler at dollylama. She is in the glass div and from down in that neck of the woods and could give you a better perspective of it. I know personally I use to load a lot out of there on a friday and go home. Which would be good for you as a flat. You would kick off and load on a friday and be almost home.
Also look for jim the hut. He has been rolling solo for a couple months at maverick. Would give you a good idea pay wise what a newbie makes. I used to take home between 800 - 1200 a week after everything came out and was home almost every weekend. Freight got bad as it did everywhere else and I was staying out about a month at a time and my take home went to about 600-800. From what I been hearing their freight has picked back up. There is a few active mavericks on this site that could tell you more. Sarge, ridgerunner, dolly, hoosierhunter to name a few.

I have been with TMC since November 2012. If a 34 hour reset is your idea of home time then TMC is for you. I am paid percentage and I haven't been over 25% since I started. If you want home time then I suggest finding a local job. None of these over the road companies are going to give you true weekends home.
