With everything else you are thinking about you need to decide if you can put up with thr reefer noise in the bunk. I can't stand one parked next to me so having one behind the bunk would be a deal breaker for me.

All the posts/suggestions from/in your original thread are still valid here, as well -- be sure you understand the good/bad/ugly of each freight type -- before you get behind the wheel of one their trucks:

No-touch freight.
born&raisedintheusa and tkp2024 Thank this. -
57 is definitely not old!!!! I've seen a rookie that 70 once. No joke. For your desires, I'd go with Bowerman if they take rookies. Arkansas has some good small companies.
born&raisedintheusa, tkp2024 and Chinatown Thank this. -

Your first year isn't going to be the dream job. You will eat some ####. As long as you know what will be good, worse better etc. People here will hopefully tell you from experience so if there is something you absolutely cannot tolerate you don't end up stuck in their cab then job hunting again too soon. As long as you know what you can put up with for a while and what you cant/how bad it is. Every job has some stuff that suck, depends on how bad it is and how important certain things are to you. We all put up with some stuff. Important to know what those things are ahead of time. The first year is typically the worst, but not always. It's a resume year for you. You have to suck it up and eat some #### so you can have it on your resume for a better job later. The main thing is to watch for a place that won't lie to you or play games with your check. Safety on the equipment is another.
I started at a port in Cal. They pushed me to get a CDL so I did, I did that quickly, and I got the endorsements, that was about $5000. Then I was hauling containers for a while. I went to a heavy towing place which was huge did that a couple years then went to delivering fuel for a while. Always look for something better. And look for something safer.Last edited: Jan 6, 2025
