I used to put a 20 ton bottle jack underneath the driveshaft at the end by the yoke, with a 2" x 4" board against the shaft and lift. Turn the shaft by jacking up the right front rear axle position in neutral, parking brakes released, and spin that wheel to push up on other side. I know this isn't the way it's supposed to be done. But I never changed U-joints but once at 1.4 million miles. And even then I can't they needed replacing. I did so because the driveshafts would be out for whatever reasons: balance every 500 k, change carrier bearing, replace diffs, etc. I would always have the shafts balanced if they were dropped and it had been at least 300k miles. The driveshaft shop would remove and reinstall the U-joints-I assumed- if needed for spin balancing.

Commercial U-Joint Puller – Tiger Tool
We would jack up the rear of the truck with a floor jack under the differential. Brakes set and truck in gear. Then place a jack stand up against the yoke and lower the jack. Will pop anything out and never damaged anything either.bjytech and mile marker 27 Thank this. -

Oxbow Thanks this.

Tiger Tool all the way. Not cheap but it works amazing. I have beat the absolute snot out of one with a 3/4" impact and a 5 lb hammer and I could not hurt it.
bjytech, Heavyd, BoxCarKidd and 2 others Thank this. -
Not just the u joint pullers. Everything from tiger tool is pretty frigin sweet.
Make sure to keep the forcing screws well lubricated. Running the 3/4 on them will get them hot in a hurry.BoxCarKidd and Oxbow Thank this. -
Tiger tool for sure and their anchor pin press is another great tool!
mile marker 27 Thanks this.
